D&D 5E What I'm looking Forward to in D&D in 2022

I'm not really looking forward to anything specific to D&D in the coming year, though I am looking forward to gaming. I've largely shifted away from D&D except in the cases of one-shots in which people want to play "D&D" in name.
5e has just become long in the tooth for me. The only excitement in it is the rare opportunity to introduce a new player to the hobby.
I can't imagine what WotC could do other than a 6th edition that could revitalize my interest - maybe an excellently envisioned, vastly different campaign setting?

2022 is a big year for me. We had a baby in October and my wife is going back to work in January, so I'll be the stay at home dad for the rest of the school year (I'm taking a year off from teaching). In June we will likely be moving from San Francisco to Atlanta, Georgia so my wife can work her dream job in the Epidemic Intelligence Services (if you've played Pandemic, it's that in real life).

So my big D&D hope is to connect with a new group in Atlanta, and find time to play while raising my little boy and teaching in a whole new state!

I'm looking forward to gong to my local convention, hopefully it still goes on.

I'm also likely going to start a new campaign sometime over the summer. Not sure if I want to try Saltmarsh or try something like some of Yawning Portal mixed with some homebrew.

I'm looking forward to the last of my Kickstarters being fulfilled. I've got the following that should arrive some time in 2022:

Calidar: Alfdain Ascendant (plus some previous books in the series to replace those I lost)
Adventures in Oz both the setting and creatures book
Kingdoms of Harn - both the Melderyn and Kaldor books
Level Up 5e - all three of the hardcover books: player's guide, treasure, and monsters
Skyraiders of Abarax - from Tracy and Laura Hickman

There are no WotC books I'm looking forward to.

This is almost word-for-word what the guy in my group who used to play Shadowrun said after my last session. After commenting on just how different Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and Dark Sun felt from each other, he announced his plan to DM a D&D 5e Shadowrun game.

Make sure your friend knows about Esper Genesis, the 5E OGL soft sci-fi system. There may be a lot of things to borrow for Shadowrun.

I'm looking forward to the day my copy of Ultramodern5 REDUX arrives (probably 2022). It's a sourcebook that brings D&D 5e into the modern day and near future (so rules for cybernetics, mecha, spaceships, etc). I plan to use it to run a pseudo-Shadowrun Doc Wagon campaign.

Looking forward to the new monster book dropping.

Looking forward to XDM2E finishing and shipping.

Looking forward to finding out which two classic settings are getting released next year. Come on Dark Sun and Spelljammer.

Looking forward to finding out what other books drop next year.

Looking forward to running games and killing PCs.

Looking forward to getting to play again. Maybe in person. Maybe VTT. We'll see.

Pretty much anything would be a better Shadowrun than the last three editions of Shadowrun.

Not sure if we'll see any more MtG settings next year though, given that they're putting out two "classic" settings and possibly an "entirely new" setting. Be surprised if they managed to fit an MtG in one as well.
Ray Winninger really, really likes Settings. And if they keep up with products similar to Ravenloft and Strixhaven, there is room for more.

If they do a tie in this year, Kamigawa has the advantage of adding something very different and non-European to the mix. On the other hand, there are two card Sets in Dominaria and it is the 30th anniversary of the card game, so a celebratory tie-in would be good business.

I was looking forward to 2022 until I saw that the first big release is a reprint book of Volo and Mordenkainen and that soured me. I know they're updating the stats to their new format but I don't really have issues with the old format myself and that's not grognard speak. I just don't need to buy a reprint like that. If it were a general book with new stuff and then things like naval combat and vehicle rules from Saltmarsh and Avernus for example or an FR book that reprinted the FR material from the adventures that went in depth on the setting, that would be ok but it's Mordenkainen, Volo's and the races from the books all refortmatted and that's cool but... I feel like it's better left to when they do the revision in 2024 instead of... now.

I do look forward to Netherdeep. I hope we see Planescape. I look forward to a peak inside the new setting. I don't really buy adventures though. I am getting Netherdeep because I love Critical Role and my wife loves it more than I do. I do look forward to Taldorei for sure.
