I was always pretty keen on the way Mystara was set up, with the Gazetteers. Any one of those manuals gave a complete campaign area, and they could be combined or altered as needed. I'm not so keen on what eventually happened to Mystara, though. (Wrath of the Immortals, followed by the dumbed down AD&D boxed sets)
There were very few changes between the Karameikos and Glantri gazetteers and the boxed sets, other than advancing the storyline a tiny bit for the ruling family of Karameikos and the necessary (and imperfect) conversion to 2E. People have always been more offended by the idea of them than the execution of them.

I would have to say Kalamar becuae it gives you everything you need without a ton of changing canon that Forgotten Realms gives you and it has more support than Greyhawk.

I also like the realistic touches in the setting the geography makes sense. I like the language rules and one pantheon for all the races.

I am not familiar with the other settings in the poll.

I'd say Greyhawk. Too much support can equate with too much canon, which can create problems if the DM changes something in the setting and later support contradicts it. While you specified the latest printed version of Greyhawk, I'd suggest at least thinking about getting a pdf of either the original Greyhawk folio edition, or a pdf of the first boxed set. That version of Greyhawk is more generic (in a good way) and provides a lot of opportunity for the individual DM to customize the setting.

I voted Forgotten Realms because that's my preferred setting but I would happy to run games in Greyhawk or Kalamar as well. I think all three make good "generic" settings .

I'd vote for Scarred Lands (I agree it fits well wit the "typical" descriptor) or possibly Arcanis (Paradigm)

Biggie,

Thanks! :)

Psion,

Maybe Rem didn't feel much like messing with Queen Geleeda or the Jack of Tears. ;)
