What is the lowest level smackdown?

I imagine it's possible at first level, if not for the equipment costs. A human cleric with the Luck domain, Cosmopolitan (Use Magic Device), Skill Focus (Use Magic Device), and 4 ranks in Use Magic Device could use a high-level scroll to deal lots of damage.

I wasn't aware that you could use Cosmopolitan to make an exclusive skill a class skill, I thought it was limited to making cross class skills class. (Of course this isn't a surprise considering I've never actually read the feat.)

Ilen is right. Cosmopolitan can't be used to get access to an exclusive skill like UMD.

I'm guessing that by "smackdown", you mean 'a character that can do lots of damage', instead of the EN Board meaning of "smackdown", which is a character of ~16th level who is able to do in excess of a certain amount of damage per round. (I don't remember the exact number... check the Sultans of Smack thread or ask Jeremy.)

Using only the PHB and DMG, the lowest level smackdown would probably have to do with charging on horseback with a lance while wearing Rhino Hide. This smackdown works even at lower levels, though it is better at higher level. I'd probably make the character a Fighter/Paladin, and use Smite combined with the Spirited Charge feat.

I'll post a complete character later if I have the time.

Technically, Oriental Adventures is a D&D book. A Samurai (or any other character, for that matter) with Iajitsu Focus does tons of damage as well. The Spellfire Wielder feat from Magic of Faerun (again, a D&D book) also gives insane power to low-level characters.

[Edit] For some more ideas, check out the "4th Level Smackdown" thread. http://www.enworld.org/messageboards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10793&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 [/Edit]

OK, here you go...

The Level 1 Core-Rules-Only Smackdown

Level 1 Commoner
Antimatter Rifle (DMG, p. 164)

6d10 per round! Yeah!

Chun tzu - :)

By smackdown, I mean a character that can deal over 200 points of damage (typically before the opponent(s) has an opportunity to react). However, I am also open to anything else that is maxed out like saving throws, AC, or DCs of attacks/spells.

One must limit his/her character to the appropriate wealth by level according to the DMG.

Dwarven Paladin4/Fighter1/Barbarian1

32 point buy
Str16 Dex8 Con20(18+2) Wis11 Int8 Cha10(11-2+1)

Feats:
Spellfire Wielder
Mounted Combat
Spirited Charge
Ride-By Attack

Boots of Speed: 8000 gp
Rhino Hide Armor: 5165 gp
(Hmm… he’s 165 gp over the limit. Maybe he has a rich uncle. ;) )
If there is a caster around to Haste you, then buy something like a +1 Lance and some Gauntlets of Ogre Power, which will add 5 points to the lance attack damage (7 if he crits).

Buff yourself…
1) Rage.
2) Have your friendly caster pump 4 more levels of spells into your storage.
3) Haste yourself with the boots.
Then in one round…
4) Charge with lance while smiting and raging
5) As a partial action, release Spellfire as a touch attack.

+15 with hit while charging and raging
Lance damage (wielding lance with both hands): 1d8+11 *4 = ~60 damage if he hits
Spellfire damage: 24d6 = ~72 damage if he hits
Average Damage: ~132
Average damage w/ a crit = ~162
Max Damage = 220
Max Damage w/ a crit = 258

So, if you hit and roll maximum damage, you’ll do over 200 points of damage in a round. :D If not, you still do over 100. Unfortunately, your AC will be 10. :( (9 base +5 from the armor -2 from the charge –2 from raging.)

Okay, so it’s not really a smackdown. But it’s the closest that I could get at such a low level. :p
