What is your favorite D&D monster?

The first: Kobolds. So cute. So adorable. So cuddly. I love the 3rd edition kobold picture. Oh yeah, and I also love my 3rd edition kobold sorcerers, kobold barbarians, kobold paladins, kobold druids, etc.

The second: Dragons. Not just any dragons mind you. I'm B.A.D.D. to the core. I only like the dragons that are regal, awe-inspiring things. The type of dragons which make outsiders crap their pants. The dragons which leave only devastation in their wake. None of these CR 3-4 wyrmlings just to give newbie adventurers a shiny leather belt. If you want a dragon skin cloak, you have to earn it. I may cost you a couple raise deads as well.

I really, really like Beholders, too. I know they're sort of silly, but I can't help myself. They're alien-looking, they have a lot of frightening abilities. I think it's fun to come up with motivations and personalities for creatures like this (not to mention a lair for a critter that can fly/levitate but has no limbs) because I really let my imagination run with it.

Have you seen this?

Too much fun!

Another vote for illithids. They're mysterious, super-intelligent, scary as all hell. They'll manipulate you, enslave you, or just eat your brain. And they're so good for providing lots of other fun monsters to use as thralls.

Demiurge out.

Well, Dragons, of course!
But, if you want more "D+D-centric" monsters...

Laugh if you will, but...
1) Al Mi'raj (or "Unicorn Bunny" if you prefer.) :)
2) Eye of Fear and Flame
3) Flumph (Don't believe me? Say it for yourself.) :p

I'm going to cheat a little bit and paste what I've written on another board:

Mine is the Gelatinous Cube.
As an aside, the gelatinous cube was the victim of one of the worst changes in 3.5. I mean, G-cubes have always been 10' x 10', in order to fit the standard dungeon size. So, when they made 3.0, the cube became Huge, in order to have that facing. Then, when making 3.5, they kept it at Huge, which meant its space changed to 15'x15' - so now the gelatinous cube no longer fits in most dungeons!

Monster foe for players: Hobgoblins
Monster as reoccuring evil BG: Drow
Monster as BBG: Mind-flayers
Monster by any other name: Humans
Monster by world concept: Undead

For their classic appeal various forms of basic undead (zombies, skeletons, ghouls) are something I love. Bugbears I like just because they look neat, and Dragons are an all time favourite for obvious reasons. For that shot full of H.P Lovecraft feel I think the Mind Flayer (can't spell their proper name ;) ) is way up there.
