I do have newfound respect for the aboleth, especially after reading Richard Pett's "The Styes" in Dungeon magazine.
Damn that was a cool adventure. I could see running an entire campaign arc in 'The Styes.'
Back to the topic at hand (I'm stealing this idea from A'koss

):
Aberrations: Illithids and Beholders are just so... classic D&D to me. I love them both and I really want
Lords of Madness to be good.
Aboleths are pretty cool too.
Flailing Dreadnoughts.
Animals: Smilodons (Sabre Tooth Tigers)
Construct: Chain Golems, those Rapier Wielding Golems from the MMII.
Dragons: Blue Dragons, Shadow Dragons, Styx Dragons, and Black Dragons. Nasty, nasty dragons.
Fey: Ragewalker. Damn this is a cool monster. Who says Fey are weak?
Fiends: Gelugons, Ice Devils, whatever you want to call them. I just really like them.
Balors. Nuff said.
Ultroloths and Nycaloths.
Giants: Frost Giants, Ogres, Death Giants, and Fire Giants.
Humanoid: Asaathi. My DM ran a whole campaign arc with these nasty buggers. I really grew to respect and hate them.
Gnolls and Hobgoblins.
Undead: Death Knights, Dracoliches, Entombed, Boneclaws, Dust Wights, Drowned, Ghouls, and Ghasts.
And...
My Favorite Monster in all of D&D - Liches.
