When the inevitable 4E computer/video game appears, which genre/style of game should serve as the flagship?

Isometric turn-based with an advanced AI for multiple characters and an entirely separate team of script writers culled from WotC or Necromancer or Paizo to write the epic campaign.

The worst part of NWN2 wasn't the bugginess or the annoying AI, but rather the sheer bland railroading craptastic story you were forced to play through.

I dunno about culling script writers from game companies -- modules aren't like movies, while CRPGs most certainly are.

I'd rather Hasbro just bought Bioware. :)

Definitely Baldur's Gate style. MMO's just can't capture the creativity of D&D, and single-character games don't really work out well either.

Basically I just want NWN3 so I can have the online content. I never bothered to finish the second game but I played multiplayer a lot. I've got more into tabletop RPGs though so it isn't really necessary any more.

I disagree completely. The more movie like -- scripted, linear, etc... -- CRPGs get, the worse they are, IMO.

I'd prefer BioWare bought D&D.

If they combine the D&D brand with a great game, I don't care what genre it is. What I like to play are console RPGs, and to a lesser extent the 'pc/console hybrid' games Bioware does (usually first for Xbox/Xbox 360, then PC later). But if someone makes a good MMORPG, or PC-style RPG, or RTS, or even FPS game off of D&D 4, that's fine.

Ever played the NWN2 Campaign?

Here's an example if you haven't:

Player: cool, I've finally outfitted Shandra with some decent gear. Gosh, cost me a lot but she's worth it! Hmm, let's go see her uncle now.
Game: Ten minutes of cinematics where you have zero control over anything that is going on and Shandra is killed and not only can you not resurrect her but you lose all her gear. You're then forced to team up with her killer.
Player: ... I'm gonna go play WoW.
