What monsters would you reall like to play?

The biggest problem for me is that monster classes aren't OGL, and support from WotC has been spotty at best.

The version in SS, no, but some third party publishers have come up with similar material that is open content. Maze of the Minotaur from Behemoth3 and Shaping the Self from Genjitsu come to mind.

As for a creature I would enjoy playing:

From Minions, the vapor bore has some possibilities for a high level campaign. For a very unusual campaign, the hearth horror would be interesting to play (with the other PCs as allied evil creatures).
From the SRD, aranea, ettercap, troll, aboleth, barghest, behir, chuul, couatl, gargoyle, manticore, water naga, and rust monster (popular with the druid players).

I really don't want to dig up the other books so I will finish in the morning.

Kind of funny reading the first posts about spiders...I always wanted to play an Aranea (2nd ed. Monstrous Compendium 3, page 8) Basically a shapeshifting spider/humanoid/hybrid...big into magic...cold, calculating, secretive, suspicious of others....a predator with a taste for flesh...and neutral....they are just a predators...

My other choice is also the Thri-kreen.....at least I did in 2nd edition. I fell in love after reading the DarkSun Thri-kreen book. I love their pack mindset, no sleep, and short life span.

other races that my DMs haven't let me play....a ghoul, an erinyes, or anything else shady (except for a vampire - which they let me play)

Thri Kreen is high up there on my "to play again" list. They were a blast in 2e Darksun, and my last one was too...

It was a obsidian-black Stony (underdark) Feral (savage species) Thri Kreen Barbarian in RttToEE who had Whirling Frenzy (UA).

I had a blast recently playing a half-fire elemental from Dragon. I worried it would be overpowered, but, naw, it worked out fantastic.

I'd like to go gnoll too. Dunno why. Just think gnolls are cool. Maybe it's because orcs and goblinoids have been done to death.

Some sort of intelligent swarm creature that forms itself into a humanoid shape would be fun. It's an SF theme, but, having read a bit of Stephen Erikson and the D'vers, I think they'd be fun. A character that can dissassemble itself into a mass of spiders just looks like fun.

Grimlocks look like a blast too. Again, it's a dunno why sort of thing.

I've always found the idea of running a whole campaign based on genies/jinn/whatever might be really interesting. Ever since I've seen them though, I want to play a Shadar Kai or however they're spelled. Shadow plane fey...drool

I really wanted to play an imp assassin at one point. This was for a fairly high-powered Planescape game, and that guy was ready as my backup character. He was a cultist of Set, and had as his two forms a Medium viper and a tiefling. Lots of assassin-y goodness going on there, and I was looking forward to playing around with what he could do.

Would have been a fun character, though I liked my githzerai monk/psychic warrior I played quite a bit too.

Another one I've thought about was a maug, one of the Large constructs that act as extraplanar mercenaries. Just seemed like they had an interesting story to them, and I've wanted to play something really big for a while.
