What other games have influenced your D&D campaigns?

I'll admit to coming to D&D from WFRP and it's flavor always heavily influenced my campaigns. I also like the in media res starts used in Star Wars modules. Finally, the idea of covenants or associations of wizards found in Ars Magica was always something I used.

BTW - I know these concepts are not unique to these other games, it is just where I borrowed them from.

What games outside of D&D influence your campaign?

First thing that comes to mind would be the PC Game "the Elderscrolls III: Morrowind"... commonly refered to simply as Morrowind. I steal bits and pieces for my homebrew. Including the Khajiit and Dwemer races.

The Morag Tong (sp?), the lawful assassin's guild, certainly has played a big role.

I used to sneak bits and pieces of Vampire the Masquerade into D&D every once in awhile too.

I tend to steal more from children's fantasy books more than I steal from other games for D&D, though. Patricia Wrede and Garth Nix have influenced my D&D games more than other gaming experiences have.

Well, you didn't say RPGs, so I'll own it. Yup, I draw inspiration from that favorite whipping boy of CRPG hatahs: Final Fantasy (IV. VI, and VII, mostly). The high-flying adventure, odd concepts, and strong focus on personal stakes has influenced my campaign design.

Traveller probably influenced me in quickly adopting the "dysfunctional band wandering through strange worlds" feel of my River of Worlds campaign, but Star Trek, Farscape, Sinbad (various versions) and Pirates of Dark Water probably contributed there, too.

The taint of chaos, ratmen, and flavor of dark elves probably were influenced by Warhammer (probably more the wargame than RPG).

I'm a huge fan of the Hero Point mechanic used by so many games. My D&D action points are like a mix of Spycraft actiond dice and Mutants and Masterminds hero points.

I also stole Spycraft 2.0's dramatic conflict system for when our 15th level rogue/spymaster had to seduce a succubus.

Amber Diceless Roleplaying, Call of Cthulhu, Pendragon, and probably Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.

Coming back to D&D with its 3rd edition was much more enjoyable for me after many years away from the game playing the others above.

Cheers,
Cam

Well, lots, but primarily MERP and HERO System; the Quest For Glory crpg series also had a definite impact, if only in how I try to structure my adventures.

-The Gneech

I run an Arcana Unearthed/Evolved game...but am heavily influenced by D&D (of course), particularly Eberron. And Warhammer Fantasy RP, to an extent; not so much for rules or society, but for the "colorful" characters.
