In the campaign I gm the wizard is human, but in the last campaign I played as a player I was/am a dwarven fighter 1/wizard 3 it rocks having the high con of a dwarf plus that cool war axe more than makes up for the lack of armor and having to drop my shield every now and then and dark vision means no wasting of spells for magic light let the humans carry their own torches I say

I'm playing a Human Illusionist at the moment in a Wilderlands game.

However, when I DM, the mages are usually elves for some reason. Then again, my players do tend to like elves for their characters.

Drow, in a Evil FR campaign. She uses a Hat of disguise (looking like a hair jewelry) to appear as human/elf in the cities. (The campaign is set near Waterdeep)

Currently, I'm in two Eberron campaigns. One has no arcane casters at all. The other has a dwarven wizard. So that is how I voted.

However, I usually play either an elf or a human when I play a wizard. As has been pointed out elsewhere, the Iconic Elf is actually a multi-class wizard rather than a single-class one. I did have one elf who stayed just wizard until he qualified for Sacred Exorcist. But that is the closest I've ever come to playing a single-classed elf wizard.

The elf is a rogue--and its a potent combination, the only arcane caster is a human sorcerer. (in the PbP no elf and no wizard).

Of course, "favoured class" really means multiclass wizards should be elves...which is also truer to the elves of past editions EDIT: as someone else just implied

Our current wizard is human.
In the two groups I play in Elves are actually the least used race.
Even Gnomes are played more often.

No wizard in our current group.

In our last group, the wizard was a dwarf. Dwarves have all those cool abilities that appeal to the wizardly types for some reason.

I'm playing a half-orc wizard who just entered middle age (he just turned 30); he's realizing that his shortened lifespan (short compared to a human, particularly), along with not-so-subtle racism within the College of Wizardry, will keep him from achieving all he hopes to accomplish.

In another campaign, the wizard is a halfling.

In my AU game, the "wizards" are a human magister, a formerly-human (now mojh) runethane and a faen (so basically hafling/gnome-like) wood witch. I didn't add these to the poll.

In WanderingMonster's Eberron game, we don't have a wizard. I'm playing the closest thing: a human artificer/psion.

I voted PHB elf and dwarf for an upcoming campaign, but even then both of them are multiclassed (the first is a figher/wiz and the second is going mystic theurge).
