What should we do with the Seventh Edition?

Casting will require players to recite actual incantations from memory.

Bards will be required to play a real instrument at the table. D&D starter kits now comes with a branded recorder flute for that reason.

This is sounding less like D&D 7e, and more like the plot of the next Saw movie.

Dulcimer, trumpets and drums are gonna be extra. Gotta make money on those accessories! You could use third party instruments but you should ask your DM first before you bring your upright bass.

At least we'll have the basic rules starter set where you just grab lids from the kitchen and bash them together. No need to be fancy.

All classes need to be Paladins, actually.

You know how a "paladin" in 5th edition is just a lawful-good fighter who goes to church? Except he doesn't have to be lawful good? and doesn't have to go to church?

Well, we should bring that to its logical conclusion, and make ALL classes paladins.

A 6th Edition "rogue" would just be a paladin that doesn't go to church, isn't lawful good, and can sneak attack. Likewise, a 6E "bard" is a paladin that doesn't go to church, isn't lawful good, and learned to play a musical instrument.

And so on.

  • save or die spells. true save or die effects will return. only rangers will have them as part of the niche protection. they will follow all of the rule for magic but no one will call them magic. magic is anathema. they will be call ranger slleps instead.
  • TWF style improvements. all save or die slleps require TWF. TWF is a class ability only available to rangers as part of the niche protection policy

You should see the new Spell-less versions of the Wizard and Sorcerer for people who want to play a magical character but still be incapable of facing high-level challenges.
