I simply don't like the connotation of a middle-aged man going into a shop and buying a game about Japanese schoolgirls called "Panty Explosion". I don't have problems with anything that feeds RPG paranoia. But I think that, in the current climate, anything that feeds allegations of having sexual interest in schoolgirls is a bit too dangerous to touch. I cannot exclude that this is a sign of paranoia on my part, but I wouldn't want to risk it.

Worse, imagine that one is arrested for some indiscretion of that sort, the police search one's computer and find "Panty Explosion" on it! You'd be dead.

I guess you two have never purchased or downloaded pornography.

I sort of liked the name, actually.

I probably didn't "get" it, if it is a reference to something ... I probably don't watch enough anime.

I just didn't figure I'd be playing it any time soon. Labrynthine social drama with school-age girls is something I tried very hard to avoid as a lad in school.

Of course one of my favorite anime shows was FLCL and that was just one big sexual innuendo with a good soundtrack. I had to give a few a few crash courses in Japanese visual literary conventions just so people would get why I was laughing.

This is what higher education does to you, kids. Avoid it at all costs. Everybody's insane by their master's program.

I assumed it was a joke name as soon as I saw it. OK, actually, I prayed it was a joke name. I still think it must be because the name seems to have nothing to do with the game itself.

But that's what got me. Having read through the website (yep, the name made me click), the game doesn't seem to have any hint of the sense of humour implied by the title. It actually seemes very, very serious. A serious game about the social dramas of psychic schoolgirls. With an implied sexual aspect from the incongruous joke name.

I find it creepy.

From what I have gathered reading posts by the writers it is not a joke name. It is a name that fits the genre according to them and some other people posted confirming this. THe game does have some dark and creepy bits in it.

Oh, I'm sure there are genre subtleties that I have no clue about. Unfortunately I didn't find it creepy in the way (I hope) they were aiming for. More in the 'dirty old men seriously pretending to be school girls' kind of way. I'm sure that's not what it's really about, but that's the impression.

I thought it was skirting the boundaries of what would be acceptable to post here on the forums. It was another moment where I cringed as I saw the page. I found it to be in bad taste, and I was offended.

Not saying it should go away. Not threatening to take legal action / do something negative with my hard-earned money / (other pointless Internet threat). Just saying that as long as people are free to say that they thought it was cute and fun and harmless and an adorable play on the anime genre, it was very much exactly what I don't want to see when I visit this site.
