D&D 5E (+)What Ubiquitous DnD Tropes Get It Totally Wrong?

I can't believe no one mentioned the biggest trope that D&D gets totally wrong - a magical 100% combat-effective PC or NPC until the magical hit point counter drops to zero, and regardless of encumbrance levels.

People exert themselves during an attack. They tire at a rate based upon exertion levels and physical fitness. They become less effective the longer a fight drags on influenced by damage/pain/injury and offset by adrenaline. Weapons that weigh a few pounds increasingly feel heavier and heavier as a fight goes on. People carrying a literal ton of gear oughtn't be able to be very effective unless they ditch that gear at the first signs of a fight.

This whole comment is kinda gross, and also just a retread of literally dozens of threads on this forum.
And yet it is never solved. If it's been rehashed so many times, can you please summarize the arguments for allowing real world political perspectives to influence to the game world? I really can understand why it's gross.

If I want to create a nihilist game world full of bigots and betrayers so that the heroes can rise above those vices, I don't see the problem. I'm not advocating in favor of those positions. I'm merely saying my world is populated by horrible people.

Well, that depends, doesn't it? If that's the kind of game your players are comfortable playing in - one in which they fight against and overcome those forces - then fine. But that's quite often not the case. Some will want to play a game in which they don't have to deal with that garbage since they have to deal with it in various forms in their lives. In such a case then trying to force that into the game against their wishes would be a gross use of a DM's authority. Justifying it by saying that's the world as it is or it's historical would be the same.
Get it now?

Bud, I don’t give a damn about your desire to pretend politics aren’t already in the game. I’m not gonna rehash this argument with you. There is a search function.

Why would anyone play in a game against their wishes? If someone doesn't want to play in my game, cool. I'm not going to chain them to my living room chair. That would be psychotic.

I just don't get why some people say the presence of racism, sexism, etc. in a D&D world, film, novel, etc. makes the writer a bigot. It's possible that the author is. It's also possible the author isn't. In either case, more information is required.

How many times are you going to argue with this guy that you're not going to argue with him?
