What would you want in Epic?

I am considering putting together a project 'revising' the Epic rules, and I was just curious what folks would want in an Epic system that's different than the one presented in the ELH.

Thanks.

I don't understadn the "need" for an epic system at all. If WotC had been smart, they could have made classes with 100 levels (what i am going for here is "100%" sorta idea; i hope people get that). But that would be too complicated, i suppose. Oh well, her's to hoping for it.

The point is, the Epic Level Handbook is sorta an afterthought - an oversomplicated afterthought. Cus now all those feats needed to be upped for an eipc version, new rules needed to be incoorperated, etc etc.

What i would love to see is a 100 level character build that is smooth and flows well. With it, there would be obvious transistions of power - guys like Alexander the Great, Heracules, Charles Martel, Shakespear and other "great ones" would be over level 50, probably by a long shot for many, commoners levels 1-5 or 10 and PC's falling somewhere in between. Exp needed for levels could probably be dropped a bit, but not by too much . . . so as to maintain balance in the world (i.e. surviving an orc raid wouldn't give you a level).

I know i am being very general here, but i have a few problems with the d20 system. I guess its a flaw of the system, since WotC was trying to stay as close to TSR traditions without killing off too many sacred cows (can anyone say "paladin?" - the most obvious of the core classes that should be a PrC). Same with 20 level progression - like i said, 100 level progression would be so much better, and it could truely cronical the PC's ascension into truely epic and mighty individuals. That is what i would like to see.

That probably won't help you one nanobyte, but i figured i'd chime in my opinion on this. Ugh, ever do i find myself trying to think of ways to improve things, but always afraid to tamper with things too much, lest i completely drive myslef or my players nuts. Maybe, in the future, i'll be able to write up/publish something, but for now, i'll put up with the d20 system, warts and all. *sigh*

Something to fix tim and jim

tim is a fighter 20/ wizard 20 who has four attacks because he took his ftr levels first

jim is a wizard 20/ fighter 20 with 2 attacks because he took wizard levels first

A deeper and cleaner epic spell system that isn't so easy to break.

More and better epic feats.

Less emphasis on mega-wealth.

Cooler epic items rather than just non-epic stuff turned up to 11.

Good rules for interacting with deities and their proxies.

I cannot imagine improving the epic system as written. It is ridiculous, in my opinion, and needs to be stored in an underground vault and never let out again.

What I WOULD like to see is a project that advances the classes to higher levels. Maybe 40th, maybe 100th.... Nyaricus's 100% idea sounds very cool and basing a game on 100 opens up a ton of variables that are skipped over in D20.

Later!

Drop the absolutes of the game system. That is what I've found to be the biggest problem. Being immune to something should be good but not a catchall. Our current set of rules for my epic game get around this by stating that Immunities grant a +20 bonus to Saving Throws for that particular effect and if its an energy type, it grants Energy Resistance 120 (which is the same as being immersed in lava, which sounds pretty damn immune to me).

The idea is that even if you are "supposedly" immune to things, you can still be affected by a particularly powerful opponent.

As for the attack progression after epic levels, allowing multiple attacks afterwards is not a horrible idea, just cap it at 4 max.

I could go on and on about this stuff, but I won't.

What the Funnyman said.

And I'd like the absurdly tough low-CR epic monsters to be...different.

But, for the love of all that's holy, epic magic items should not be worth more than Luxembourg.

I think the arbitrary x10 pricing modifier for epic magic items is one of the silliest things they could have done. I'd also go as far as to remove the epic creation feats, too. It takes a certain caster level and drains XP, time, and money as it stands... why waste feats?

First call it high level play...so many people seem to hate it just becasue of the name epic. No reason to keep that name.

Give me more then just higher numbers lkike Jester elluded to. Wizards' book is fine in some areas but they dropped the ball on creativity in most of the sections.
