D&D (2024) What's not going to cost discipline points for the Monk to do now?

If it were PB + Wis mod, it would be better for low level characters, and it would work for EVERY fight, as it wouldn't rely on Long or Short rests.
  • L1-4: PB (+2) + Wis mod (+3) = 5 Di points per fight, but can recharge to earn more throughout the fight.
  • L5-8: PB (+3) + Wis mod (+4) = 7 Di points per fight + recharge
  • L9-12: PB (+4) + Wis mod (+5) = 9 Di points per fight + recharge
  • L13-16: PB (+5) + Wis mod (+5) = 10 Di points per fight + recharge
  • L17-20: PB (+6) + Wis mod (+5) = 11 Di points per fight + recharge
Many fights you wouldn't even use all your Di points. But you'd be encouraged to, rather than be afraid of running out for future fights.

In fact, you are encouraged to go hard and fast to use more Di points per fight due to recharge. Sounds like you get more per fight, and more per day overall, but it is not unlimited for longer fights.
However, on further consideration, one problem with this would be that the scaling of Di points is not limited by Monk level. Even a Monk 3/Fighter17 Multiclass would get lots of Di points.

Ooooh... What if... You have a maximum number of Discipline Points equal to your Wisdom modifier (min. 1), or your PB, or both (depending on the cost ratio they go with). At the beginning of your turn, if you have not spent a Discipline Point since the beginning of your last turn, you gain 1 Disclipline Point (up to your max).
Not sure that's simpler than just +1 per turn.
This means you can alpha strike for a couple rounds
Hmmm...

What if we did Omega strike instead?

When you roll initiative, you have 0 DP.
You gain 1 DP for every 10' you move.
You deal bonus damage equal to the number of DP you have.

The longer combat goes, the more powerful you become.

So I could move 30, use one of points I just generated to bonus action step of the wind, move 30 more into combat, and thus have 5 points left over along with my attack action, on the first round of combat at level 1?

This seems broken. Plus the silliness of having to move your character around like Sonic to charge up.

The only Monk feature in UA6 that has both a discipline point cost and a limited number of uses per day is Wholeness of Body. So, asked and answered, I guess. You could maybe argue that Stunning Strike’s once per turn limit, or the bonus action cost on Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, and Step of the Wind count as double-charging, but I very much doubt those are going away.

Stunning attack should be an Action with no cost of ki.
As an Action, make unarmed attack, if it hits, target rolls save vs stunned.
Trading action with some added damage to remove one turn from target.

Dash+Disengage as single Bonus action for 1 ki is a good trade,
Patient defense needs to be scrapped and just give monk uncanny dodge same as rogue.

Scoring a crit or suffering one should recharge you 1 ki point.

I would love to see something along the lines of:
Flurry of Blows: Immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you may make two unarmed strikes as a bonus action, as long as you have at least 1 Discipline Point. You may instead expend 1 Discipline Point to include the two unarmed strikes as part of your Attack action. This feature cannot be use more than once per Turn. (Don't want any Fighter/Haste abuse).
Patient Defense: As long as you have at least 1 Discipline Point, you may use a Bonus action to take the Dodge action. When you are attacked, but before the hit is confirmed, you may use your Reaction and expend 1 Discipline Point to take the Dodge action.
Step of the Wind: As long as you have at least 1 Discipline Point, you may use a Bonus action take the Dash or Disengage action. You may expend 1 Discipline Point to take both Actions. In addition, your jump distance is doubled for the turn.

I would rather have; when you take Attack action you can make two unarmed attacks instead of one weapon attack.
at 11th level 3 attacks instead of 1.

this is a big no for me.
Might as well say; attacks vs you have disadvantage.
Step of the Wind: As long as you have at least 1 Discipline Point, you may use a Bonus action take the Dash or Disengage action. You may expend 1 Discipline Point to take both Actions. In addition, your jump distance is doubled for the turn.
This way, just give monks rogues Cunning action as this is even better than that.

spend a Bonus action or one attack form your Attack action to regain 1 ki point.
This gives you controllable way to regain points and out of combat it's 3 pts per round so you can have full power 99% for the next battle.
