Whats the Best Sorcerer .../prestige.../feat.../spell

corcio

First Post
As a sorcerer
you dont enjoy the same spell progression as wizards or clerics...but you have the enjoyment of spontaneous casting....despite the fact that you still only have very limited spells
so in order to help augment this obvious weakness
how can one improve a sorcerer to outshine a wizard....i ask because of course im playing one
so then

is it a good idea to pick up Prestige class (which one if any and why)

which feats should i be looking into getting besides combat casting and spell focus

and also since i can only pick limited spells....which ones would make me more useful...im not trying to be a blaster...im trying to be useful...dont get me wrong scorching ray is incredibly powerful for a 2nd lvl spell but what else is there that im overlooking...

thanks i look forward to hearing some nice opinions and stories and any sort of experience with this sort of thing

Er... don't get Combat Casting. It's a waste of a Feat. Skill Focus (Concentration) is sooo much better, and it's fraggin' Skill Focus for cryin' out loud.

Anyway.

PrCs are great for Sorcerers, who lose nothing except familiar benefits. It's often hard to qualify given the dearth of Feats & Skills that a Sorcerer has, but there are some work arounds.

1/ Human Paragon: Costs you a caster level (generally a big no-no), but you gain better nicer hit dice for three levels, a bonus Feat, +2 Charisma, and you get to pick your skill list. It's sweet.

2/ Candle Caster: You can easily qualify after level 5, and it grants you all Knowledge skills. Excellent one or two level dip to qualify for another PrC after level 7.

I'm rather fond of the Eldritch Knight. It's very easy to qualify for (taking a level in Aristocrat worked well for a character I've played), and the advantages, I feel, outweigh the disadvantages. The better Fort saves alone can be worth it, especially against other mage types. And the higher BAB has a payoff for things like ranged touch attacks.
