D&D 5E What's Your Level Sweet Spot?

3-12. PCs are powerful and have lots of options but 6th lv spells is where it starts to get hard to hold a world together. 10ish is also the breaking point of when hordes of low CR NPCs are still credible threats.

Levels 3 and up. Levels 1-2 aren't that much fun, because most classes haven't gotten their sub-class yet, which is the defining feature for most characters. As for the high end, I've ran up to level 17 without much issue. As a player, I think the highest I've gone is only 10, however.

Not sure how you want to rate this.

I think characters really come online around 5th. I've played 1-12 and will easily say 12 is still in my sweet spot - the game changes at 11 just as it does at 5, keeps things fresh.

So it would seem my sweet spot is 5-12.

However, character that have leveled together (go go party synergy) are a stronger sweet spot than just created-at-level, so I'd rather start in the 1-3 zone. And 12 is just the highest I personally have played outside one-shots, I think the top edge of my enjoyment continues for a bit.

So 3 to say 15 could be my sweet spot.

EDIT: Typos - none of you need to know about my sweat spot.

1-10.

Beyond that, its ''epic level'' play to me (my own definition, not the epic-20th-level+)

I prefer levels where things such as dragons are a real threat and an ancient one is a creature that should not be fought, much like fighting a volcano or the sea itself.

Anyway, my preferences.

I love all the level ranges for the different experience they give. Each one has advantages and disadvantages.

I hear a lot from my players that they consider 1-2 less fun for how fragile they are. Still a lot of good game memories, but I grudgingly admit that it's probably more fun for the GM than the players at those levels.

If I had to choose a favored level range, it would be "as high as you can get the campaign". I always start at 1 to 3 ish, because I love the trajectory of low to high level characters as they build their competence. But at high levels, it sometimes feels like the PCs are just unstoppable no matter what gets thrown at them...which really frees me up as a GM to throw insanely unbalances situations at them with the confidence that they'll at least be able to survive, and the gonzo ways they come up with to try and triumph are always fun.

The highest I've gotten a long term campaign to is 19th level, all they way from 1st. So I'll say the 16-19 level area is my favorite spot.
