Where to get free/cheap legal advice. Need Ideas by Sat!

Also look for the nearest university with a law school. Most have some sort of program for providing legal services as a training feature for the law students. The primary draw back is you get what you pay for.

If you do end up footing (part of) the legal bill, pay the lawyer directly. Just so you know your money got spent on its intended purpose.

Good luck. If he has even half of what you said documented, then he should have no trouble getting custody.

He's a similar story (though perhaps not as bad as yours) that I got from a friend. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

My sister has 2 kids.

One real good son, Tom, who is down to earth, practical, just got married (Mary).

One real bad daughter, Lisa, who has no earthly idea of how to do anything except churn out babies and write hot checks. Pregnant and 16, 17, and 18 . You would think she would understand by now where they come from.

Tom and Mary have been going thru the process of adopting Lisa's first 2 daughters. After all the court and paperwork and all, Lisa signed away her parental rights so the adoption is going thru.

Well, the 'Father' of one of the daughter, Deadbeat, comes into the picture last week and wants visitation rights. Tom and Mary are not going to allow this. The kids have had enough issues with their family without having 2+ fathers around. So, they took him to court.

Deadbeat, in his infinite wisdom told the judge that he was now part of a stable family group with a good income and deserved to be able to see his daughter. He had a long standing girl friend of 2 years with whom he lived with her mother and her mothers boy friend.

After further investigation it turns out that Deadbeats girlfriend is CURRENTLY 17 years old.

The Judge said, not only are your parental rights terminated, but you are under arrest for statutory rape. And since you now have a good income you are not eligible for a court appointed attorney. Get a Lawyer. He also charged the mother with aiding and abetting.

Finally. A Real Judge.

Despite the fact that it was in capitols, I still missed the 'currently' on first reading.

Still, I think it would be very difficult to convict deadbeat of anything. Just because he has been seeing his girlfriend for two years, doesn't mean he has being seeing to her for all that time.
