where would you go?

Zamboula, in Conan's Hyborian age.

The crossroads of Shem, Stygia and Turan.

I would try and take up with some Zuagir Nomads and raid Turanian caravans until the local Satrap sic'ed his Shemite mercenaries on us.

I'm a home-body enough to where I'd love to go to Shadowdale and down a pint with Elminster - he smokes his pipe, and I listen to him pontificate about the good old days of the Art and the Power as the sun went down on the porch of the Old Skull Inn.
Well, sure! But what makes you think Elminster would deign to visit with you?

;)

This reminds me of when I first began running a "Dalelands" campaign. The player characters started as 1st level nobodies. During our very first session, the guy playing a gnome spellcaster made a beeline through Shadowdale for Elminster's tower , to seek an audience with the famous wizard. (The gnome had nothing important to discuss with Elminster; the player did it just for the heck of it.) As DM, I had Elminster's house servant answer the door and turn the PC away, telling him that Elminster was not at home and/or he couldn't be bothered. The player was persistent. He went back a day later, but still was turned away.

Finally, after a couple of game sessions, and after several attempts to get past the front door, the player character got insistent, demanding to see Elminster. Sighing, the servant let him in and escorted him down the hallway, to an ornate door. "This way," said the servant, opening the door for the gnome. Grinning, the player character passed through the doorway... and found himself standing outside, at the back of the tower.

Sharn without a doubt. Given that I am traveling as me and not an RPG version of me I think a few weeks in Sharn would be a great vacation, with a weekend trip on the lighting rail out to Wroat and a flight back on an airship just for the experiance. The Floating towers, air boats, the views, the exposure to other cultures, the food! Of course if I was staying for a while I would go to Morgrave and learn to be a Wizard or Artificer if I had no natural talent to be a Sorcerer - although I'm mostly Bard as is.

If you could visit just one place in any fantasy world (published or no, gaming-related or no), where would you go and why? How long would you stay and what would you want to do while you were there?

I would like to go to Narnia, or the Land Beyond the Sea, with my autistic son, in hopes that he might meet Aslan, and be made better.

I'd have to say the islet of Shakhala in a homebrew archipelago world. An abundance of tropical fruit, one of the best spots in the world for quality fish, and the only monsters you have to worry about are all in the ocean surrounding the island, or roosting in the cliffs.

At least, as long as you don't count the carnivorous plants...

An interesting island with plenty of nooks and crannies for me to explore without seriously risking my life. There are a few old sandstone ruins, but none go underground and monsters have no reason to populate them.

If I were looking for some excitement (such as if I were a heroic D&D character), I'd explore the Heartlands, starting from Mistledale and heading down into Cormyr.

Middle Earth, the heart of Mt. Doom, just when Isildur decides NOT to destroy the One Ring. I'd give him a flying kick into the lava and save everyone a lot of years of hardship, and of course become a loved and adored hero in the process. Probably shack up with Eowyn, Arwen, or some hot elf chick who peels grapes for me.

None of 'em! Those places are DANGEROUS! :uhoh:

Unless we combine this thread with the "What class would you want to be?" thread. That opens possibilities.

Sorry, but you'd probably be trailed as a murderer actually, get your head choped off or something, and just have to hope some hot elf chick walks past your grave some time. :\

But at least you did the right thing eh? :)
