Which are the Genie of the Earth?

Easy, the dao, many will say now. Sure, for D&D, that is correct. But in mythology?

Admittedly, neither google nor Wikipedia are fully reliable bases for research, but my research in this regard does not appear to clearly support the Dao as a type of Genie (Jinn, Marid, Ifrit). The Wikipedia article mentions ghuls (this name is already taken, but could fit) and sila (unfortunately with hardly any information). Does anyone else have any knowledge regarding that?

Ghul are genies of darkness, and Sila of light. (think demons and angels, and you would be pretty close to what they are.)

Strange - nothing I can find about the Si'la supports them being Genies of Light. An interesting bit about the Ghul: It appears that the term ghul originally referred to a female Jinn/Genie, with Qutrud being the male counterpart.
