I know it's a long shot, but...
Other: Ultimately, I'd absolutely love to see a 3.5 D&D/d20 treatment of Lankhmar. Ideally, that would mean reobtaining the license--which, IMHO, I'm not sure of considering how well previous incarnations of the setting have fared (not well, it seems).
Also, IMHO, I think that Lankhmar would best be suited as a d20 product, or at least a heavily-restructured D&D setting. The magic system would need to be reworked (technically all "arcane" magic instead of divine), the classes would need to be changed (no clerics/druids/etc.; distinction between arcane spellcasters who use white magic, black magic, or elemental magic, as well as mere "dabblers" like Mouser; no spellcasting bards, rangers, assassins, etc.), the frequency of magic items would have to decrease (thus calling for use of systems like class-based Defense bonuses, Reserve points, etc.), & probably would need to shift from an Alignment system to the d20 Modern's Alliegiance system.
I had to vote with my heart on this one & go Lankhmar, but I know it'd be a miracle to see come true (that's why I'm working on my own conversion of it--Unearthed Arcana will be a big help on that).
Though I couldn't provide a 2nd vote, my 2nd choice would go to Mystara. However, if they did provide a 3.X update to Mystara, IMHO, I think they should take a few steps to give it a bit closer feel to the OD&D system. A few ideas:
* Have the paladin, ranger, bard, & druid classes as Prestige Classes instead of core classes. Since bard would be a PrC, change the gnome's favored class to rogue (maybe expert).
* Change the elves' favored class to Sorcerer (I know, I know--OD&D elves had spellbooks, but I think that the sorcerer's starting weapon use and the elves' racial bonus weapon profs. really lends itself to having something in lines of the old elf class).
* Since they were not part of the original OD&D selections, maybe disallow or restrict the presence of gnomes, half-elves, & half-orcs in the group (or any other characters that are not a human, halfling, dwarf, or elf).
* No subraces (IIRC, there weren't any duergar or drow in the OD&D setting).
* Maybe limit the deities/domains clerics of certain races have access to (the racial domains from FRCS could be brought in, to represent the "racial clerics" from the Gazetteers). Or, to a more extreme note, instead of selecting a deity to revere, clerics select a philosophy/aspect to follow--either Good, Order (turn undead only), Chaos (rebuke undead only), Evil, Nature (for future druids), Air, Earth, Fire, or Water. Demihuman clerics may select an exclusive species-based philosophy/aspect (once again, for the "racial clerics")--Dwarf, Elf, Orc, Gnome, Halfling, etc.
* Decrease the types of dragons (overall), but go back to the old ALs for them--IIRC, white, green, & blue dragons were Neutral, red & black dragons were Evil, & the gold dragon was Good.
* Increase the rarity of the more rare/fantastic exotic weapons (like the double-bladed sword or gnome hooked hammer). Bastard swords & more "near-realistic" exotic weapons should still be available.
At the very least, I think that it'd be a viable setting to introduce--and it could be released as a mini-game in Dungeon/Polyhedron or in some articles from Dragon.
