Hi,

I voted for Al-Qadim. I love Planescape but it's very easy for me to use all my boxed sets and books with 3.5 as is -- it's the descriptions of Sigil and other strange places that made Planescape so cool, not the rules. I actually prefer the Manual of the Planes for this -- no loss of magic items pluses, no loss of priest spells etc.

Al-Qadim had quite a few rules (unique classes, status, spells & items) and Wizards could produce a great Arabian Adventures book if they set their minds to it.

Cheers

Golem,

Not sure I'd trust your friend...but okay.

Ari,

Agreed and there will ALWAYS be a need for a guy like me telling people how it is. ;)

For all of the people who voted for Mystra@!

The last thing I want to see is WOTC siccing some two-bit hack on Mystra and ruining the last decent D&D setting!

It's all fuzzy to me now.

Blackmoor was inserted into the Mystara/Known World setting with the DA1-4 Modules around 1987, AFAIK. I don't believe there was a connection previously.

I think we may have just called in 'Brun', the continent shown in the map in the Isle of Dread.

slightly before the Companion Rules boxed set was released. T$R released X6 Quagmire. it had a map of the World. ;) blackmoor wasn't part of that.

blackmoor did make it in the World of Greyhawk folio from 1980. but lacked any real information.

and as its own Supplement in 1975. Supplement II Blackmoor. with the original Temple of the frog adventure. ;)

I'll offer a radical thought: Most settings don't need complete revision: just a 3E interpretation of some of the more radical game mechanics from the setting. Mystara needs very little - my personal opinion is that Mystara is so linked with Basic D&D that it really should stay with the system, but I know others did like the 2E revamp of it, though I didn't. But most of the ideas - the hand crossbows, the red steel, the lupins, Thyatis & Alphatia, etc. - are duplicable with material we already have in 3E now.

I'd rather see the Dragon Magazine treatment, because there are few unique mechanics to each setting that need radical overhaul. And frankly, if they were to do a revamp of an old setting, some gamers won't like ANY retreatment of the settings, BECAUSE IT'S NOT IN THE OLD SYSTEM ANYMORE. For goodness sakes, look at the dissent between the various conversions of Dark Sun! There are like 4 or 5 conversions, NOW two of them are "official," and some gamers don't like ANY of them. If you want to play an older setting, you have three choices:

1) Use the old rules (best option to me)'
2) Cobble your own rules to your group's liking. (2nd best option),
3) Find a conversion you like at least 60% of, and use it. (worst option).

Me, I liked Athas.org's take on Dark Sun, and if I ever play it, I'll use it. But other settings are best left to fan conversions, and WotC really should lax their restrictions on those, because that's the ONLY place fans will find complete satisfaction - in twelves different conversions of each setting so they can pick what the want. The Average gamer may well not mess with ANY old setting.

i bought the butchered DL revamp for the 2000ed rules at Gen Con this year.

and a month or so later. i bought Sovereign Press's attempt at DL.

but i  the hardback release of the setting in the 80's

it should never have been changed from 1edADnD.
