Either bright, cherry red or vivid crimson red.

After that, blue, leaning in a darker and slightly more muted direction--a blue that implies low-light conditions.

Yellow, the color of a Fireball!!
Silver, the color of shiny metal armor.
Darkness, no light in the dungeons!
Red, blood for the blood god!
Green, for lush jungles, yada yada.

I really don't associate a single color with D&D.

That plum brown of the 1e PHB with the orange of the Moloch statue. It's such a dominant image for me as a kid. Then the same orange carries over to the original 2e PHB with the riders emerging from the fires. Easley is just brilliant in his use of color. It's too bad the book design department for TSR went downhill with the layout and art placement on the interiors and in the revisions. The brown was also pretty consistent in the 3.x era PHB covers.

For me, it is pale blue. The dice in my Basic box (1981) were pale blue. I think it's the combination of the colour and the polyhedral dice that created this link in my brain. I had never held polyhedral dice in my hand before.

What about you?
For me it's definitely red. I don't know why.
