Voted for the original, despite some really bad writing. Mostly because I don't care for all the doom and gloom of the new one. Stopped watching it after the second season. It may be (is) more 'realistic', but I want triumphant Heroes, darnit!

I agree with you on this. I watch the new show and I will even go as far to say it is a better show. The writing is better, the acting is better but I actually find myself not caring who lives or dies on the show. I don't care if the cyclons win as a matter of fact a lot of times I find myself rooting for them.

The old show was cheesy very much a product of its time but I like the fact that they were heroes and that for the most part the human race was filled with a bunch of self centered frak up rejects.

The fleet on the new show would be a better place if the booze ran out. :D

Both shows (like everything thing) are products of their times.

The original was more of a kids show. I mean, not completely, since after all, Cassiopeia was a hooker and people got killed. But clearly it was going after some of the Star Was audience, not to mention toy lines. It also sort of borrowed from the Chariots of the Gods stuff which was popular in the 70s.

The new one is aimed at adults pretty much entirely.

Also, while I can't really touch on it here, the political slant of the two shows is completely different. But just look at what the Cylons are - in the original, they were basically Communists. In the new one, they are more like global warming - something mankind supposedly brought on itself.

New one, for sure. Granted I was born in 1980...

I need to watch more. I'm only on season 2.5

The original cylons sure. But the human-form cylon clones I thought were a metaphor for terrorists.

Tough choice. There are aspects of both I like. I prefer the old Baltar from the 70's. He was a clear traitor and worked with and for the Cylons. I liked the old Cylon ships better. The writing in the new version is much better. I like the new Galactica (ship) slightly better. I like the new Cylon centurions better. Things I don't like about the new one included too many modern day items like guns that shoot projectiles, the telephones, etc. I prefer the older version with the laser pistols. It makes more sense with the level of technology required to have battlestars and other high level ships.

They do explain that though, they talk about in the mini-series that one of the reasons Galactica (as well as the old Vipers) wasn't affected badly by the computer virus the Cylons sent was because it had old technology. I think they even stated it was to deal with the threat of Cylon hacking-attacks and wasn't just old-tech for the sake of being old-tech.

I've tried several times to get into the new series but it just doesn't do it for me. I did enjoy the original, yes some of the episodes are awful, but if sit down and watch the first five episodes followed by the two-part Pegasus storyline you'll be seeing some top notch Sci-Fi, well ahead of it's time for the year it was produced.

When the ahow was made they had planned to do the movie , Lost Planet of the Gods , Gun on Ice Planet Zero and that was it for that season they had planned to follow up with two more two hour movies the following year,

ABC was so exicitited about the ratings that they ordered a TV series which proved to be a mistake. The show was very expense to make. They did not really have a lot pf plot ideas for an entire season. The ratings dropped though it was still a highly rated show. But for ABC to be able to sell advertising for the price they needed the show needed to be on Sunday the night that got the biggest ad rates. The shows ratings while high were not high enough to rate being on Sunday night.

The entire reason they made Galacrica 80 was it was a lot cheaper to make.

It really was to bad because for its time the story and special effects of those first episodes of Battlestar Galactica were top notch. The special effects were as good as anything done in the movies.

Must have missed that myself. Oddly enough in the real world old tech is generally regarded as weaker security-wise.

Ehh, well not really when it comes to electronic warfare. If you got technology that can run fine even with tons of EMPs and viruses all over the place your in a good position.
