What it is? How/why did the EEE set up the drow-giant alliance?

Noted above, the 4e DMG (but not the PHB) mentioned Tharizdun. His activities in the time of myths and legends are described in the books Plane Above (the astral sea) and Plane Below (elemental chaos and the abyss). Divine Power comments on him, also his clerics and his portfolio.

Part of making Tharizdun 'work' is keeping things about him mysterious, leaving questions unanswered. He should be hard to wrap your head around, amorphous and shapeless.

What it is? How/why did the EEE set up the drow-giant alliance?

Sorry if that wasn’t entirely clear. “It” is the EEE. It’s been a while since I read the GDQ series, but I don’t think it’s revealed why except that the alliance is organized by an upstart drow house that worships the EEE, seeking to replace the dominant Lolth-worshiping house. Also, at least one of the giants’ strongholds is built ovet or nearby an ancient temple of the EEE. The Shrine of Evil Chaos in B2 is very similar in its description.
