Which race do you HATE to play?

The most annoying race?

  • Dwarves -- haven't we had enough of bad Scottish accents?

    Votes: 31 9.9%
  • Elves -- these supercilious tree-huggers need to have their long lifespans shortened.

    Votes: 59 18.9%
  • Gnomes -- they belong in my garden, not in my game.

    Votes: 104 33.3%
  • Half-elves -- the worst of both worlds. And boring to boot.

    Votes: 37 11.9%
  • Half-orcs -- their grunting grates. And the breath!

    Votes: 40 12.8%
  • Halflings -- if we could just call them "Hobbits" they would be okay.

    Votes: 33 10.6%
  • Humans -- I play one in real life, why play one in a game?

    Votes: 8 2.6%

Driddle's recent thread on "favourite race" lacked one important feature -- a poll! :D

(And it was also not negative enough.) ;)

So what's the deal? Which race do you HATE to play?

(Me: I hate the halflings. They ruined my plans for world domination.)

Personally: Elves. Not so much because I hate them (though the stereotypical snobbier-than-thou ubermench is so far beyond tedious it's sad), it's that I have the hardest time wrapping my mind around an elven character. How to play them as something other than human with pointy ears. It takes a bit of mental acrobatics to realistically and faithfully portray a character who at start already has lived longer and has more perspective than the oldest individual that I personally will ever meet.

It's not easy to think like that, it's not simple or intuitive. And because of that I tend to avoid playing elven characters.

Didn't vote, but that's bacuase there wasn't an option for it.

Honestly, I could care less, in regards to the core 7 races listed above. Sure, I have preferences, but I really don't dislike any of the above races.

However, I do dislike subraces like duergar, drow, etc.--basically getting a decent in-game mechanical advatage/variance due to a cultural difference; something which often isn't done with humans. Something which, in past editions & past experience, I've really grown to dislike. If it's something rather major biologically (i.e., a water-breathing version of a race), I really don't mind it as much; if it's culturally (i.e., a race of evil elves or dwarves), then it does bother me.

I'm not a fan of shapeshifter PC races either (hengeyokai, lycanthrope PCs, etc.), but that's because I feel that it sort of steals away from the awe & mystique of those beings when players can play them as a PC race. But, of course, that's MHO.

I feel your pain (or at least irritation). In fact, one of my earlier polls (man these things kill me) had to do with drow-nausea.

Back to my race riot inducing thread, the dwarves seem to be doing quite well. No votes yet!

But the same goes for humans. Dammit! Don't you hate being human??? :D

I hate the living crap out of half-elves. They are the useless trash that will eventually take over the world.

They are like cockroaches, a longer lifespan then a human and far greater addaptability then elves.

They will rule the world long after the last other humanoid has died.

Besides, from a power gamer viewpoint (I'm just using the viewpoint, I'm not a powergamer,... or maybe a little one ;) ) they are just to weak in comparrison to other races.
