Ok folks, take alook at these two swords and tell me which one you would prefer.

Sword #1

OR

Sword #2

Which one would you choose?

Thanks for giving me some feedback and helping me out on this :)

#1 for me, the heal and the defence can be very handy...

I rated the Frost Brand as better from a game mechanic perspective. From a flavor perspective, I might be inclined to pick #1.

Analysis
+5 Defender, Bane vs. Evil Outsiders with Protection from Evil Ability when drawn
means +7 weapon with a Protection from Evil ability when drawn
vs.
+3 Frost Brand, +6 vs. Fire Using/dwelling creatures
Icy Burst ability
Ring of Fire Resistance major
+1 to ac, saves, and initiative while sword is carried

Frost Brand is normally 54k, which makes it a +5 equivalent weapon
Icy Burst is +2 more, the extra +3 vs. Fireusing/dwelling is worth at least +1 more
+8 weapon plus the Ring of Fire Resistance is worth 28k (and more for a ring slot, less the resistance normally provided by a Frost Brand)
plus the ac save and initiative bonus

Even if the ac save initiative is the same value as the Protection from Evil ability, the Frost Brand ends up being the more expensive weapon to build.

This doesn't mean that weapon #1 might be more useful in lots of situations.

I'd take #2. The ability to quench/dispel fires is cool (pun intended) and I think it would be a more versitile sword. That said, while it has been explained, I agree with Alzirus that the split between fire and evil seems odd.

I would take #1 but I wouldn't be dissapointed with #1 by any means -- OTOH 2 weapon fighting, Oversized 2 weapon fighting and both weapons -- WOOT

#1. I like unnamed bonuses, but protection from evil gives good bonuses too AND it makes you immune to domination, which I think is a pretty good effect. Add to this the fact that #1 has a higher bonus in most circumstances, and the choice is clear.

BTW here is the description for the Frost Brand:

Hellëdring is a bastard sword with a blade of 34”. It is made of a silvery mithril-alloy and has master qualities that make it rigid when thrusting, and flexible when cutting. It is razor sharp and will cut most material effortlessly. It is a level of craftsmanship that hasn’t been seen in the Forgotten Realms since ancient times. When the sword glows cold blue in the presence of evil, silver runes of an ancient flowing elven script can be seen running along the blade. The grip is wrapped with an exquisite blue leather hide. The crossguard has 4 small sapphires set in it flanking a small diamond in the middle. When striking an opponent the sword will give off a chill and the blade will actually gather a light coating of frost on it. When it contacts heat or blood the frost will produce a slight mist. Upon a critical hit the sword will unleash a small cloud of icy motes that will dance in the air surrounding the blade and the area hit.

And the Defender blade:

Aedring is a bastard sword with a blade of 34”. The grip is wrapped with an exquisite green leather hide. The crossguard has 4 emeralds set in it flanking a diamond in the middle.

I'm thinking to make these two swords twin blades in my campaign, and the Pcs may find them in the future, or design an adventure around them.

if anyone has any ideas they think I should add, especially to Aedring, since it is sorta plain in description... .or any other general ideas or concepts on the swords or their description fire away.

Thanks folks, the feedback is appreciated.

I personally like the first sword. It's a pretty potent demonslayer in the right hands, it can heal you when you've been beaten down badly, it's a pretty good tool for alerting you to the approach of an evil enemy (whether you want to fight it or avoid it), plus it has the added bonus of protecting against magical mind control, something a warrior would normally be most vulnerable to.

This would make a very good weapon for a paladin, IMHO.
