It is also worth noting that there is significant argument over the relevant effectiveness of Plate Armour between scholars and historians.

The Royal Armoury in Leeds (UK) have done tests suggesting (for example) that the Medieval Longbow could not penetrate Plate Armour at all and others have suggested that the Archers at Agincourt did not kill any knights directly, but instead killed horses and knocked the knights off their feet.

This is, obviously, contradicted by other historians who carry out their own tests to show that a longbow can penetrate plate armour.

My personal feelings are simple, I feel the evidence shows that Plate Armour was so effective against hand held weapons that unless you hit them in exactly the right way (where you simply punch through the armour) you can't get through the armour at all.
