Well, I have a fair sized group of friends that I play D&D with. We mainly get together AS friends. For example, if we didnt have enough to play a regular D&D session, we may do something else like watch movies or play Talisman. I rarely play with people I do not know. I dont play just for the sake of playing. If none of my friends played D&D, then I probably wouldnt be playing very much.

But friends are also generated that way as well. One friend may ask if a relative or another friend joins the game group, then that person may become a friend as well.

However, if anyone of us wanted to play a different game, I am sure that my whole group would be up for trying something different. Right now, however, we are all pretty happy with D&D 3.x.

I'll play anything once. That said, a bad experience can drive me away froma game permanently.

eg. Our group has no interest in ever playing Nobilis again.

Ayup. We were having fun playing Rifts for a while, but there came a point that I just got tired of fighting the system. :(

I own quite a number of the Rifts books and plunder them for ideas and art. I have to agree with you about the system though, it's the most horrible set of game rules I've ever tried to run.

Gah, this thread is making me realize that I'm not as open minded as I thought!

Do you have a copy? Willing to part with it?

I will play most system/campaigns. For D&D I didn't like playing Birthright. I hated playing Vampire:Dark Ages even though the other players in my group loved it, I prefered Masquarade. I guess Dark Ages was to similar to D&D for me, and I prefered a different type of genre at the time.

If the right bunch of players has enthusiasm for a certain system I would try it at the very least. Even systems I am not enamoured with I'll try in order to please folks who love it and I want to play a game with.

I have only played D&D (and a one-shot Gamma World).
I would try about any game or system.
It is the other players which matter. If they are a good group of people anything will be fun.
If I can't stand to be around the other players, it doesn't matter what the game is.

And here I was thinking you needed a custom user title of "The Hollyhock God" to go along with that avatar... :p

Any game, any time. As long as the players are fun. I like roleplaying because the people involved.

If one of my friends approached me saying they wanted to play a different rules system and they couldn't wait to run it, I'd give it a try, but not enthusiastically...

I don't particularly want to learn a new system just for the sake of a new system. It isn't about a particular attachment to d20 (although I love it) and more about a detachment from the system. I don't see the benefit in learning a new task resolutions system. I can see how some people would like exporing new systems and trying them out, but for me that's not a fun aspect of the game.
