Who Do You Want Illustrating 4th Ed.?

I've gotta second the idea of pillaging ConceptArt.org. I'd love to see the likes of Marko Djurdjevic and Justin Kaufman working for WotC.

Also, for God's sake, get Keith Thompson to do both art and fluff. Hell, give him his own campaign setting to create. I'll buy two copies.

I certainly would not balk at these images in a PHB.

Neither would I, if it was 1985.

I think he's trying to fist himself…
I believe his hands are in entirely the wrong place for that.

It would be great if they got Michael Komarck to do a few paintings. Whoever's responsible for the black and white sketches 4E sketches is a pretty good choice for simpler interior/iconic illustrations.

ETA: I'd forgotten Terese Nielsen, I'd like to see her work in 4E too.

The pose is cool. The Klingon armor is not.
The opposite. The pose is technically impossible without dislocating your wrist, from the looks of it. And klingon armor? Do you actually know much about the history and variety of armor in the world? Other than the extremely pokey scales, that armor isn't that different than what Henry V's troops would have worn at Agincourt.

It's a bit of a mishmash of various real world styles, true, but so is D&D as a whole. Always has been. The idea that D&D should look like Hârn strikes me as a somewhat bizarre requirement.

Its possible, just no one would ever do it. It doesn't make any sense. Footwork should echo the blades position and it certainly doesn't in this case. I don't understand the hate for the armor either. Why does it look "klingon"?

QUOTE=Baby Samurai]Excuse me, I'm huge Frazetta fan. My brother got me into him through his Yes album covers. I also have several coffee table sized books full of his work. I just think there is nothing wrong with a little variety.

I guess in a perfect world I would have my Erol Otis, Jeff Dees, Elmore, Brom, Reynolds, DiTerlizzi, and a few others I can't recall, but hey, this world certainly isn't perfect.[/QUOTE]

Just a point of clarification, Frazetta never did any Yes album covers. Roger Dean is the designer/artists who did most of their classic album covers and set designs throughout the 70's and up through their most recent tour. Not sure if you are confusing Frazetta with Dean, or Yes with another band, but you didn't see any Frazetta on Yes covers.

Though I appreciate the "standard / traditional" style I prefer the very in your face action type.

I would LOVE to see WoTC tap into the bigger comicbook artist crowds. I would love to see a Jim Lee Orc attacking something. A George Perez sorcerer casting with her familiar next to her. Mike Mignola doing shadow realm creatures.

The 3e guys did a great job also and I liked some of the 2e stuff. The only 1e stuff I liked was Reynolds whom ressembles John Byrne's art style.

Firstly, I'd like to thank all the posters on this thread. Found lots and lots of good quality fantasy art here, so kudos!

Secondly, I don't mind who's illustrating 4th Edition, as long as it moves away from the Chainmail Bikini idea of female armour. Something like Aribeth's armour from Neverwinter Nights should be the furthest we go down that route, unless it's important for the character herself to be dressed in such a way. Like the Simbul.

Not that there isn't a place for such art, but I'd prefer it if it wasn't in the PHB. Art books by Royo, though..
