Who Else Has Never Been To Gen Con?

There is not much point in going to GenCon, or any other convention for that matter, unless there is a group of fun people you are planning to meet up with. Conventions of all kinds suck if you just show up and attend the events on the program. I started going to GenCon last year because I moved cities and thought this would be a good time to get together and hang out with some of my gaming buddies from back home who attend the convention.

The funny thing about GenCon is that if instead of spending the money on flight, hotel, badge and food you went to your FLGS, you would more than own everything you ever wanted in the hobby. A trip to GenCon is EXPENSIVE, when you add it all together.

Yes, it's fun, but it's probably more fun to go the local shop and blow the money on games.

Just my two cents.

I have never been to GenCon, (or any other con, although Winninpeg just had/is going to have [not sure of the dates] PrarieCon) but I was kinda half-hoping to go this year - although unfortunatly my best friend is on a 6-month-long trip to BC and Uraguay for Canada World Youth and isn't coming back till December.

I would, however, love to go and game with some EN Worlders and just bring about 1000 bucks spending money (I don't even have that now :heh: ) and go nuts :) I wish :p

Someday, though, I will go and meet up with some of you awesome guys and gals. We'll see what happens :)

I wanted to go this year, but I wasn't planning on being out of work for a while, so it gonna happen yet. Hopefully next year.

I never had the desire to until around Gen Con time last year and heard so many people talking about it. Heck, I didn't even know about it until I became part of the community at EnWorld...

I would never spend that much money on games. My Gencon trip each year costs me about $500-600, maybe up to $750 if I go nuts. It's well worth it.

I've never been to Gen Con and am not going this year either, but I do plan on going next year for sure, now that I actually have a job where I could afford it. I have been to smaller local cons before, primarily for RPGA events.

Never went, never will. I lack both money and people willing to go with me.

I have been to a local gaming convention in my hometown: Eindhoven (The Netherlands) called "Het Spellenspektakel", but they don't exactly focus on RPG's. Lucky for me I also play both Warhammer and Magic: The Gathering ;) .
