Who ruined D&D's Rep?

I have no idea what you are talking about. I think our own willingness to accept it as uncool is what makes it uncool.

My solution: Everytime someone gives you crap for pretending to be a dwarven fighter with a +2 sword. Hit them in the head with a sword a few times and ask them how uncool it seems then. Alternately, I have found shield bashing, spiked chains, bullrush, and long bows are also viable options for correcting the thought patterns of nay sayers. Please refrain from attempting magic missle, fireball, or charm person as it seems most normal people are immune to these outside of the game. (I had a bad experience with a priest and a fireball spell.)

In conclusion if we all just unite and use our weapons proficiencies in a well organized manner we should be able to "re-educate" anyone who finds us to be uncool.

G4 on demand had a nice little blurb about DDO

"We at G4 think that playing Dungeons and Dragons is about the dorkiest thing you could ever do but Dungeons and Dragons Online is.."

I'm not at home so I can verify the exact wording but that was the gist about D&D table top.

The same, by the way, happened a few years ago, when my girlfriend at the time's father found out I was into 'Dungeons and Dragons' and made fun of me - in a polite way, but basically kept calling me a geek. Finally, I shot back with 'your daughter's been playing RIFTS for years!' And he was like 'yeah, so? how is that the same?'
The correct answer to his question would have been: "It's not. Only dorks play RIFTS..." :p
