Who still plays older versions of D&D?

Hello everyone. I know this is, of course, a 3/3.5-focused site, but I'm curious to see how many of you are still playing the older stuff. Thanks for participating in the poll!

EDIT: There is no option for "Not playing pre-3e D&D." Simply because I assume the vast majority of you aren't! I'm just curious to see how many *are*.

I have some of the books, AD&D I think, maybe OD&D. I might give it a try someday, and also there's a guy in the game I'm running who's mentioned possibly running one of the older editions.

I second this. I play only 3.5 right now (albeit with a fairly rules-light interpretation), and I prefer that to any previous edition. But if it's all that was available, or one of my gaming groups wanted to do it, I'd certainly be willing to play an older edition.

I am unfamiliar with "Moldvay/Cook/Mentzer/Rules Cyclopedia", but I still play any of the others when I get a chance.

I voted for OD&D because it's my favorite.

None of the above. Since 3.0, I've never looked back. I did greatly enjoy playing 1E, 2E, basic, expert, etc, but I enjoy the new system too much to go back. Sure, there's nostalgia and I have a bunch of the old modules to pore over, but there's just so much more you can do with a character in 3E.

As a GM, I still prefer the Holmes Basic D&D to all other versions from an ease of use standpoint - from character creation to full-blown campaign, it requires a lot less prep time than any of the other editions, IMHO. All of the situation-specific rules present in other editions really drive me batshit crazy as a GM.

That said, as a player I prefer D&D 3x, as the payoff for placing the burden on the GM in said system is removing almost all of the weight from a player's shoulders. All a d20 player, all I really have to know is 'roll 1d20 and add some numbers to it' - I like that a lot. Few other systems can be boiled down to simple statement like that on the player's end.

I'm working on combining what I like about both of those system in my spare time (really, aside from drafting a bestiary, I'm almost done). Now I just need a decent name (I like DungeonQuest, but it's taken).

I have played Basic, 1e & 2e, but I'm not playing any of those games currently. I played in a 1e game eariler this year that pretty much cured any nostalgia with a healthy shot of reality by way of reminding me of all the reasons why I stopped playing AD&D. I have no regrets that I don't own any of that old stuff anymore besides a Basic booklet and 2 PHBs. I have many great memories but no desire to try to drink from those wells again. One day it will be the same for 3.0 & 3.5 along with all the spin-offs currently on my shelves.
