I've started putting my old 1e stuff up on ebay, and I've been surprised at how much it's going for - especially common stuff like the PHB.
I noticed that. A few years back I found 1E books pretty cheap on EBay, not anymore. I wouldn't part with any of mine as during tonight's game (our 1001st) we'll cross a new boundary, namely the next generation of players as one player is bringing his daughter's boyfriend along to play (and possibly her too). My own daughter has been dying to join too but is still too young (our rule is age 18). So I'll need my extra 1E books for the next gen.

That's where I am too. My weekly group uses 1E while my online campagin uses 3E. I honestly don't see that much of a difference, as my stories are heavily plot-driven with extensive role-playing, the game mechanics only becoming a factor in the combat segments. I've also used 1E material with the 3E campaign and 3E material with the 1E campaign with little to no difficulty.
To me the two systems are quite different, but that doesn't mean that I can't like them both! :)

I'll be interested to see how 1E books in general get treated as the current generation passes into memory. I'd leave mine to my kids, but of course I'll still be using them when I'm in the rest home. ;)

Reckon I need to check out eBay and see how much 1E stuff is going for these days.

Depending on what books you are talking about, that's something I can understand.

I play 3e and wouldn't touch the old system, but the DMG and some 1e and 2e adventures, supplements, and settings do a better job at what they do that currently published materials in many cases.

One book I find that I regularly use when DMing for younger children, regardless of the edition I'm using, is the 2E Monster Compendium as it has almost all monsters in the single volume with a nice full color drawing of each to use as a visual aid.

Dykst: "The problem is that the players I know feel like 1E is bush-league and clunky. They'd never play a previous edition again. Yeah, I've aksed on occasion."

Here's an idea, use OSRIC, tell them its "something new" like C&C, like a faster D20 that uses tables instead. They'll quickly take to it I bet, not find it clunky at all (as 1E moves very smoothly). Hopefully they'll be shocked when they figure out there playing AD&D 1E and having fun. BTW OSRIC should be coming out in print pretty soon (accoring to Papers and Paychecks). I think it'll be avail. in both hard and soft cover POD at cost (so you wouldn't have to print it out at home to get it on your table).

Unfortunately, without including a 'none of the above' option, you prevent those who would answer thus from *seeing* the answer to your poll.

Last I looked at a poll I didn't want to vote it, there was a "view results" link there for exactly that purpose.

I don't know. I had to learn to look at the old game differently before I could stop finding it--or anything that looked like a clone of it--clunky.

Although, perhaps the right DM could've managed to change my perspective through play.
