D&D 5E WHOH - Fighters get 4 attacks. Barb/Paladin gets 2 and all else gets 1???

While raging, Barbarians get advantage on all attacks. So they are hitting more often as well as doing more damage per hit.

Our monk at 8th level is getting 3 attacks per round, 4 if she spends a ki point. Our cleric has Divine Strike (extra damage), Divine Favor (extra damage) and 4 times per rest can make an extra attack. He can also cast Spiritual weapon for an extra low damage attack.

Our Rogue is a dual wielder. So she gets two tries at sneak attack damage.

Everyone is rolling plenty of dice every round, I think.

In terms of damage, fighters get more attacks but I'm assuming pure barb, pally, rogue will do more raw damage with theirs through rage/smite/sneak. Has anyone run the numbers yet?

A barb5/fighter6 will do more DPS than a pure 11th-level character of either class, at the expense of the survival-oriented higher level abilities.

You get the same Extra Attack progression as the fighter, advantage on the attacks, Action Surge gives 3 more attacks. You also get a fighting style for dice rerolls on great weapons, which you'll want to use for the Frenzy bonus attack. You can even wear Heavy Armor and concentrate on Str+Con. And you get 3 ASIs or feats.

Total attacks per round (with frenzy bonus action) = 4, all at advantage, at level 11. 7 with Action Surge.

That's 1d12 (great axe, reroll 1 or 2) + 5 (strength) +3 (rage bonus) per swing, with a nonmagical weapon. 58 average damage if you hit all 4 times, not taking into account the GWF rerolls. I probably screwed that up a bit but you get the idea; a lot of damage.

That depends on a lot of factors: Magic items, enemy defenses, resistances, tactics. One thing the Fighter will excel at with more attacks but less damage per hit is vs. groups of mooks. They can move in between attacks so one would assume if facing a crowd they will take down more enemies per round while the barb or rogue will be hitting single targets harder than the fighter.

Though now that I look at it, you might not be able to stack the Extra Attack ability just by taking 5th-level of a bunch of fighting classes. It's basically the same ability, so maybe if you already had it from Fighter you might not get it from Barbarian.

You do not get the same Extra Attack progression as the Fighter. Your six levels in fighter will allow you to attack twice in an action. Your five levels in Barbarian will allow you to attack twice as an action. Which ever of these you use, you get to attack twice as an action.

A level 11 fighter gets the ability to attack three times as an action.

Bah, ninja'd by the person I was replying too! ;o)

Well, assuming "you're attacking monsters in unrealistic circumstances with non-magical weapons for the purposes of testing DPR".

As you say, I'm expecting rogues and barbs to do massive damage against single targets whereas fighters will spread out their damage against multiple targets. Assuming all three are attacking the same target, who will do more DPR?

The Avenger gets haste as an Oath Spell so he can make more then 2 attacks.

Paladin's in General also get sentient mounts with a spell, which means the mount gets its own attacks.

Don't forget that feats in this edition are used to emulate the abilities of other classes. I would wait for the player's handbook to come before making assumptions on what you will have to do to make something you want work.
