Who's running or playing in an Arcana Unearthed Game?

Well, we have 1-2 sessions left in our current miniseries (Star Trek, Mirror Universe), and i'm pushing for the next mini-campaign to be D&D. I'll be using Arcana Unearthed, Dynasties & Demagogues, The Book of Drawbacks and Distinctions, maybe the Net Book of Feats, and that's probably it. I might grab a couple monsters from the D20SRD, but i'll probably just stat up opponents myself as needed. And, yes, i still consider that "D&D"--there's no more difference between AU and the PH than between the Known World and Dark Sun.

Either that, or it'll be Four Colors al Fresco.

I am using some of the rules in an otherwise almost-standard campaign. I am using magisters instead of wizards, but have my own organization around them. I'm using a few other classes as well as some of the races. The overall world-feel I'm going for is exotic and mysterious, and mixing in the AU stuff really helps with that.

Now Playing: Siege on Ebonring Keep

I have been the DM in a Diamond Throne campaign since late September. We play usually once every two weeks.

We started out with Plague of Dreams (which was very fun). They completed the adventure and went onto Siege on Ebonring Keep. Just finished Act I.

The character's are the following: quickling faen akashic 3 (might take levels in totem warrior [spider]), human magister 3, litorian unfettered 2 (1 racial level), litorian fighter 3 (most likely take levels in totem warrior [wild horse], and a human greenbond 3.

At the end of February, the person playing the litorian unfettered moved so we are down to 4.

I have a few house rules that I wanted to try out and no one is complaining. I use a mix of Spycraft's action dice with AU's hero points. I also use a mix of AU's dead/dying rules with Spycraft's wound points. And last but not least, XP is 1/4 normal.

Peace and smiles :)

j.

Edit: I also play in a play-by-post. Read sig.

While I normally GM, I was the player in a game that ran the Siege on Ebonring Keep. I played Ko-Lothas, a giant warmain and was joined by almost every other race-class combination eventually. Almost every other player went through two or three characters, not due to death, but the desire to explore the setting.

Only one player got done in by a critical, a sabacci who was a champion of death.

I'm doing my best to wrap my brain around his personality as he's going to wind up with a Wis of 20 and a Cha of 6. I'm open for suggestions there if anybody has any.

I would say that he is quiet and shy. He has great insights but he doesn't believe that his opinion matters as much as other peoples.

The grumpy low charisma guy is so common (and IMO a misjudgement) but the shy wise chap is far less commonly seen, and could make an interesting role-playing thread.

Cheers

He's a Verrik Mind Witch (we're starting at level 2) and I've put a lot of emphasis on his ability to switch off his senses at will.

Too bad the akashic mojh didn't grab you more. ;) I like the concept of the verrik mind witch also; there's something about it that grabs me.

You could play him traditionally Verrik, which is to say self-confident and vaguely unlikeable because of the "verrik curse"; but my take would be to play it as a person SO introspective he just barely registers on the radar. He has low CHA because he is very inimposing and always thinking about the moment and the future. Play him almost like the Kevin Smith character of Silent Bob; he doesn't say much, but when he does say something, it's usually profound and world shaking, that no one else was clued in on before. (The DM might be able to help with that bit if you run dry at times.) Not introverted, just near-nonexistent unless something is REALLY pressing.

Well actually, Henry, I did like the mojh akashic I played in your game and there are about a half dozen or so other character concepts that I'm champing at the bit to play. But I'm only going to get one shot at it for a while and somehow the Witch, particulary the Mind Witch, particularly particularly the Verrik Mind Witch was something that I latched onto.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. The trick is this: He is absolutely, unshakably certain of his own instincts and gut feelings. And he can't comprehend why somebody else would dare to disagree with what is so obviously (to him) the correct way. So I have a hard time seeing him as a "go along, get along" sort.

A lot is going to depend on the makeup of the rest of the party and the sorts of adventures we encounter. I don't mind butting heads with other members of the party once in a while for the sake of roleplaying. But I don't want the character to be a constant source of strife.

I guess I'm thinking that most of the time he won't bother trying to talk about or justify his actions. He'll just do what he knows is right and let the others be angry about it if they disagree.

There's a good chance that some of my fellow players will be at NCGDIV so you can ask them how much they hate my character. ;)

And, by the way, I think you should go back to the Hank Williams, Jr. avatar. It made you look younger and thinner. ;)

(how often do you think that sentence has been said in the history of the world?)

I am about to begin the design for my own city and environs for an AU campaign that CAN be placed in the Diamond Throne and assumes DIamond Throne but DT is not a necessity for the city, just a 99% similar back story. It is a very Lovecraftian type of place with a secret history and Demonic cults etc... Should be very fun.
