Well, I can tell you why I _didn't_ subscribe (aka become an ENWorld supporter):

When you recently started to ask for ENWorld support, you suggested several options. Since I wanted to support ENWorld I picked the one that seemed the most appealing to me:

A subscription for the 4e WotBS campaign.

Once I've got all the 4e WotBS adventure modules, I'll decide if I become an ENWorld supporter or not. This will largely depend on what rpgs I'll be playing then (if any).

I haven't subscribed yet, but I did purchase a 3 year membership just before you changed the rules, and the reason I did that was for Community Support.

Poor space fight.

Another "best D&D site, yada, yada, yada, search, yada, yada"

Really don't know how you make money from that except for the adds, and those don't seem to be enough.

But it is a really good place.

I don't like spending a lot of money on subscription services. $3 is an amount I can pay without discomfort and I am happy to do it. I view EN World as a valuable community and I am willing to offer my fair contribution to see that it continues to be a cool place to hang out.

I was laid off from my job that I was at for 8 years earlier this year. I decided to attempt running my own company (doing what I was doing before) as I have built up considerable contacts in my area and at this point, I can honestly say it will succeed but it is still in the growth stage. I just need to wait for my income to stabilize and we also welcomed our second child into the world on Rememberance Day. Once I feel comfortable financially, again, I intend on subscribing. I like the new model and I love ENWorld and want to support it.

I just subscribed, and it was because of WotBS and other premium content. Mostly WotBS. I don't have time to build my own modules, so good adventures, particularly adventure paths, are key for me.

On the other hand, I'm already a DDI subscriber, and running Scales of War, so community support + this thread is what got me to subscribe now rather than later. I won't be running WotBS soon.

(One thing that bugged me when I signed up was the double cost for resubscribing. That seemed needlessly antagonistic.)

I agree; I don't like doing that at all. But it has worked - people aren't choosing to sign up, download everything and then immediately cancel, which ends up costing a lot of money. I wish I could find a better way to do it, but this is the only thing that seems to actually work. And I've always said that folks just need to contact me if there's a reason other than that that they needed to cancel and resubscribe at a later date (if someone said to me "I couldn't afford it for a few months, but I'd like it back now" I'd be completely happy to help them).

And one day we'll have enough subscribers that it simply won't matter that people do that. When (if!) we have 8000 subscribers like WotC, we'll totally have the cashflow to simply absorb the cost of the percentage who sign up, download, cancel, and I can drop the resub price hike. It's an economy-of-scale thing, and I'm perfectly happy to absorb that cost providing I have the money to do so.

Anyway, this has been discussed at length here on the boards before; no point my derailing the thread by repeating the conversation again! :)
