D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

Isn't it funny? Years ago the bard was a secondary class and now it is a "meme machine". I guess it may happen the same with gnomes, halflings and others, only they need to be showed in the right way to be a source of inspiration of new ideas.

Serious question, as I've seen a ton of people online that play D&D make jokes about Gnomes or say how much they hate them. More than Kender, actually.

So . . . what is it about Gnomes that makes people hate them so much? Or such easy targets for jokes online?

I love gnomes.

To me they make more sense as a race than halflings (which seem more like a human ethnicity to me).

Flavorwise, I consider gnomes fey and associating with human homes as perceived in the overlapping feywild.

Loving animals or technology are fine.
