Hey guys. I am just curious as to what reasons people have for buying/not buying published adventure modules and adventure paths. I guess I am trying to gauge why these products sell or don't sell.
When I started playing D&D (1st edition) I would buy modules to run because I didn't know how to write my own. As I got older I started writing my own and purchased modules to help level characters between the adventures I created. Eventually I got a job then a wife and started exclusively buying published adventures because I didn't have the time to write them myself.
Now I am back to having the time to write them (yes I still have a job and wife ;) ) and I'm thinking about selling them as PDFs so I'm wondering why do you buy/not buy adventure modules?
Thanks in advance

Yes, multiple choice would be better. In addition to several of the reasons above... sometimes I just like to read 'em.

Thanks for the reply El Mahdi. I had considered doing that but didn't know how many people are actually like yourself. Plus this is my first poll and I don't know how I would be able to get an accurate number if it was multiple choice?
I should have probably asked someone first. :)
I guess with this poll people will probably pick what applies to them most. Me personally - I occasionally buy them because I run them when I am too busy to write my own.
Thanks

A few months ago a poll went up asking "What frequency do you use published adventures?" The majority of the poll respondents was either 0-10% or 90%+.

I don't buy MANY adventures. For 4e, it's often to get access to the monsters (this was before DDi ok) and to get a look at the encounter designs/get the foldout maps. Modules have good stuff to steal, be it plot (Paizo) or encounter design (WotC) or general ideas period.

However, sometimes I'll look at adventures for systems I'm not familiar with, to gauge how encounter design works or the general feel for it. SotC or Wraith Recon was like this.

I buy the ones that are good and have cool ideas and sound fun to run. It really has nothing to do with time, lack of experience, or stealing ideas from them. I like adventures.

I voted I don't buy them. I write my own. Although that's not really true. I don't buy them and I don't write my own.

I voted "not experienced" but that's not 100% true. The fact is, I CAN come up with my own adventures and if I take the time I can do a good job, but I don't really enjoy it and am more than happy to pay someone else to do it for me.
