Why don't paladins and rangers get 0 level spells ?

I also noticed that Rangers don't get healing ability until level 4 spells, upon which time they gain the level 3 (for others) spell, cure moderate wounds. Again, their spell lists are wonky. :)

Uh...

Rangers get Cure Light Wounds as a 2nd-level spell, and Cure Serious Wounds as a 4th-level spell.

They also get Cure Moderate Wounds as a third level spell. It doesn't show on their spell list, but if you look up the spell it shows that it is a Ranger 3rd spell.

It doesn't in my copy...

Brd 2, Clr 2, Drd 3, Pal 3, Healing 2 only.

[Edit] Ah. It's mentioned in the errata. [/Edit]

I was referring more to utility 0-level spells than "toys" or offensive 0-level spells (right, now THERE's a misnomer). Specifically i had a problem where My paladin had to wait until the wizard cast light on me before i could go fight effectively. I didn't say anything at the time, but it just seemed foolish, and got me to thinking. Why is something as simple as a light spell, or even a detect magic, etc. simply beyond the paladin, or his nature-loving counterpart, the ranger ? I think the spell lists are fine, (more or less) and casting level 1 spells at 4th level seems perfectly reasonable. Assuming we want to give em their little magical boost, How should we handle level 0 spells for these guys? what should the spell lists look like ? what level do they get them at ?
