why no epic levels for dieties?????

what to do?

It comes down to this:

WotC wants D&DG to be usable without the ELH. If not, folks will be peeved they need the ELH to use D&DG. So Gods don't get Epic Levels.

But it doesn't make sense for Gods not to have Epic Levels.

The solution? I don't know. Is it addressed in either book? (I have neither)

I own DDg. I have not yet seen ELH. That being said, here's how I see it. They don't need to be compatible.

In DDg, you get rules for gods. Not really cool mortals, gods. All the rules for gods. If a god would want it, it's in there. What the heck does a god need a +10 club of everything when he/she/it can just will you to be dead or create a pool of lava under your feet?

In ELH, you get rules for really cool mortals. Powerful, but not gods. So they want big toys and all kinds of smackdown feats. They still aren't gods.

I see these as two fundamentally different paths of character development. The fact that they don't need each other to work is completely cool with me.

The truth be told this whole argumant is stupid because even Epic level heroes should not be able to kill a god, maybe an Avatar but not an actual god so anyone who is using Deities and Demigods just for stats so they can kill them probably doesn't care that they don't have epic feats and weapons and if they do then just add a few.

Then what exactly is the point of having stats for the Gods? So you know how high his bluff check is?

Lady D. I don't own the ELH. I know you do. Let's face it though, a God can sense a guy coming from MILES away, ESPECIALLY if it's a murderous and/or righteous little guy. Given that option, such a deity COULD just alter reality to make a wish and/or miracle happen THAT would render said epic level character unconcious and/or incapaticate him/her. With all the SDAs at his her/command, I don't see a 40th level party coming CLOSE to killing a lesser god. An avatar of that god, yes, but not THE god. Also, while it's possible to kill demi and quasti-deities, I DON'T, and repeat this emphatically, DON'T see this act without having SERIOUS repercussions. Gods don't like it when mortals get uppity. Even the good ones would take notice and certainly try to do everything within their power to deal with that individual and/or groups of individuals. Those sponsored BY gods, might have a little more leeway but I still don't see them completely getting off the hook. There's always consequences to one's actions.

Nightchilde-2, glad you agree. :)

I just use it so when I get a Titan free, I know who to turn to! ;)

your ideas about book trees, why not make those books on the same tree?

Because I'd prefer they avoid book trees altogether.

You may very well be correct that many folks who use D&Dg will also use ELH. That does not mean one should require the other. The whole remains more flexible if each is able to stand on it's own.

I think most folks prefer the game flexible. They want to be able to buy only what they actually want to use, and mangle it any way they see fit in their own games. This is better accomplished without book trees.
