why not europe?

I don't recall what its called, but AEG has a RPG that is basically Europe with all the nations and cities renamed.
That would be 7th Sea. Designed by John Wick, whose strength is not history. Witness the fact that Theah had a Roman Empire and Latin without Greek, and Christ without Jews. Oh, yeah -- the Muslims are the bad guys.

If you're interested check out Orichalcum's Aela Iacta Story Hour. D&D set in the Roman Empire and run by a woman with a doctorate in Roman History. Pretty cool.
Not to be too nitpicky, but that would be "Alea Iacta".

I found that (pseudo) historical games create one problem: At least one player starts spouting of "trivia" of the era in question.
THis could get very strange very fast. esp if the character in quetsion is vaguely connected to "historical events" through technicalities.

example: Chtulhu campaign 1917 (or so) : one of the characters is a Ex army doctor, having done his term of service in africa. Plausible character. very nice background. Until someone realises the regiment he served under is Lawrence of arabia's regiment thenit gets silly.

Anyone else had this problem? ( or it just my particular geek-co-players :D)

... they point to their elf character's 1,500 year lifespans and say "hey! your character has already lived longer than some nations! Whatcha been doing with all that time?"

In my Fantasy Earth campaign (OK, so I'm not one for cool names), the elves (and gnomes!) come from the Fairy Realms.

I've seen this problem with Forgotten Realms players, too. :p

You can check out my game's web page here:

I haven't updated the page lately, but the campaign is going strong. It's set in the "Byzantine" empire of the "dark ages."

There are a lot of historical inaccuracies and anachronisms, but I was up front with the players about their inclusion when the campaign started. That was basically for any trivia spouters, though the setting is in a more distant time period.

The various historical supplements for 2e tried to do this. There was one for the Crusades, the Vikings, Ancient Rome, the Charlemagne period, etc.

And, best of the lot, A Mighty Fortress But then the reformation/counter reformation is my favorite period. Plague, massive fires, gunpowder, both the Inquisitions, and a hundred years of war... What's not to like?

I hearby declare the world Europe as IP, but I will license others to use it for $1.00 per imprint.

You've been beaten to it, but you'll have to do a title search to find out who it belongs to...:D

The Auld Grump (Only partially joking, it was tried and shot down quite some time ago...)
