OK folks, that thread I posted to in the OP? That's the thread about why would anyone want to play 1e. This one is about why would anyone NOT want to play it. If you want to post why you wouldn't, the original thread is perfect for that. Thanks :)

I started off with 1E and have many fond memories of it.

But I'll be damned if I want to use to-hit matrices, saving throw charts or weird saving throw types again.

1E for me is just something to plunder all of the abundant goodness from and put it into other, better games, like Shadowdark.

For me, the big thing is the objectively terrible organization of the DMG which, unfortunately, contains a considerable amount of the core rules necessary to play the game. The thing is a complete mess, which is why I love OSRIC and Hyperborea so much. They're simply better rendered versions of AD&D (Hyperborea in particular does so much right).

Lots of restrictions. If you're used to that via 2E and B/X or clones and OSR playstyle is fine.

1. Presentation. Terrible. 1.5 blending 2E and 1E is kinda better. 2E adding missing 1E stuff for example eg assassins.

2. Gender based ability maximums. Wife does t want to play it do we do 2E or C&C. Only edition to do it. Pass.

3. Very low level limits and weak monsters of 2E. Its really a lvl 1-10 game.

4. 1E adventures a lot have aged poorly. And I'm not talkingcabout art or product of its tine. Ran done recently book keeping the treasure as DM wasn't fun by level 6-8.

Advanced B/X or 2E with 1E tone is more appealing tbh.
