Wil Wheaton in Dungeon Magazine [merged]

If you think he will make a fine contribution to D&D, you probably also watch "Enterprise" and "Smallville". And you *shush* people if they talk during the show.

Styrovore -- that's enough. Pooh-poohing someone's taste in TV shows isn't going to get you anywhere around here. Plus, I don't take kindly to geek-on-geek violence.

Ooooh, I hit a nerve. I didn't poo poo, but you percieved it as such. All I said was the people who like Y like X and Z. Someone's feeling insecure...

If you are comparing Morrus and all the ENworlders (which donated money to support a useful and practical website) to a bunch of Blog-Junkies that blindly worship the "star" of such hits as "Fag Hag" and "Lifestories: Families In Crisis", then you are insulting Morrus and all the ENworlders, not I.

I don't care if you love Wheaton, I was just letting people know that he will beg for money from his fanatics, and I was feeling sorry for his wife. If you think he will make a fine contribution to D&D, you probably also watch "Enterprise" and "Smallville". And you *shush* people if they talk during the show.
Styr, Eric already reprimanded you but I feel the need to chime in here. You've only got 6 posts under your belt. You have a lot to learn about posting ettiqute around here. Be a bit more friendly and respectfull to other peoples opinions and POV 'round these parts.

Its the "enworld way".

'sides, Grandma is always watching...

Anywho. I dont see why you people are so up in arms about Wil Wheaton. The guy is great. Why is ok for Vin Deisel and Lexa Doig to be D&D Geeks but not him? Oh, i know... because while they're famous they dont LOOK like geeks, they just say they they are. But Wil, He's embraced his geekdom and he's famous. It seems to me as if people chafe when our geekness is put in the limelight without some really attractive figure at the helm. I know we're better then that guys.

Wil's a good actor. He plays D&D, he's married with a wife who respects the things he does, and stepkids that want to get involved with HIS hobbies and become little gamers themselves, we know he's a writer cause he has 2 best selling books. He's living a dream that most of us have, and people are trashing him for no reason what so ever. I just dont get it...

I'm not so worried about gaming becoming mainstream. Who wants it too? I dont want it to become mainstream, but I DO want it exposed to more people, lots more.

Look at it this way. Lots of cute girls read Wils site because of Stand By Me, right? Lets just assume that a "few" of them get their intrested piqued into D&D because of his article. They pick up an issue of Dungeon, read the article, and decide to try D&D. BOOM! More female gamer chicks! Dont we all benefit?!

I think you all need to just lighten up a tab and offer a tad bit of respect. Especially for someone who's taken crap their entire life for a role he played in one of the greatest tv shows of all time. Its not his fault the character got bad writing.

I LIKED Wes. I related to him. And its a damn shame he got shat on by the dudes who took over ST after Gene got sick.

So uh, I've ranted. Anyway. I'm looking forward to the article, and I'm sure its gonna be a good read. 'sides. Its just ONE Page. The stuff that normally went on the backpage was poly or advertising space.

Stry: I'll be a tad more straight up about it. Maybe i'm even overstepping myself...but..

Eric didnt perceive you as "poo pooing", he saw you outright :):):):)ting on someone. He's asked you to stop, so please do so. If you care to discuss the negative (or positive) aspects of those shows and why ya might dislike them.. (in a mature manner), then siddle on by to the TV Forum we have.

Styrovore,

If you want to continue to post at EN World, you're going to have to tone down the rudeness. When I asked you to stop, I meant for you to stop and not make things worse. If this trend continues I will close your account and you will not be permitted to post on the forums.

To get back on topic. I don't know if Wil Wheaton writing for Dragon will have any big impact on sales or not, and it wouldn't alter my buying or not buying the magazine. Hopefully it'll be a good column, but it really comes down to wait and see at the moment.

Yanno what would be cool? a "Characters of the Stars" Column. Where famous people detail their characters in 3.5 for Dragon/Dungeon.

I'd like to see how Vin stated Melkor. Is he a min/maxer? etc etc etc.

Same for Wil :-p

Ditto; with the addition that it likely won't affect me at all as I just let my Dragon subscription lapse for the first time since ... well before the "big drought" when TSR just about went belly-up. Too much to do, too little time, so Dragon was the first to go. :) Dungeon, though ... it'll be a cold day before I give up me Dungeon.
