Wild, Wild West? Sidewinder vs spellslinger vs deadlandsd20?

Any ideas on mixing the rulesets that I have access to? SW:R, Deadlands d20, Spellslinger?

Any major balance issues in mixing the classes? (of course balance issues don't matter as much with CoC potential) Or any spell combinations that would be ...interesting....?

SW:R is a d20M product, Spellslinger is for D&D 3.5 and Deadlands d20 was a 3.0 product.

As far as I'm aware there are some minor changes required between 3.5 stat blocks and d20M stat blocks.

D&D classes should convert to d20M Base/Advanced classes relatively easy. e.g. Ranger to Tough/Scout (SW:R) or wizard to Smart/Mage. Similarly for NPC classes to d20M ordinaries.

I'm not sure I'd bother with Deadlands d20. I think d20 Past might be a better choice as it has several advanced and prestige classes that would be appropriate.

An integration of d20 CoC and D20 Modern has been done here: Cthulhu Modern Horror

Awesome. I love the moonshine :D.

I'm glad you like it... I was rather proud of that one.

Slueth...

Gah! I knew I was forgetting one.

The Snoops and Wheelmen are playable, but as you mentioned, a few of their abilities would need to be adjusted... or carefully renamed and re-explained (using street urchins as "bugs", for example). Maybe it's more a problem with the typical gear they use, than the actual abilities.

Wheelman -- Cavalry Officer... Pony Express Rider... Train Engineer (the Legend of Casey Jones!)... River Boat Captain... -- there's possibilities there, but we don't really have stats for the vehicles. Not that they'd be too tough to convert. Plus, cutting out practically all cars, trucks, airplanes and helicopters really cuts down on the Wheelman's Drive focus options.

Pbartender, Morgenstern, if you don't mind, I'm starting a separate thread on "Wild West to Spycraft" , both to give the original poster his due, and to expand on this a bit.

D20 Modern and Sidewinder: Recoiled work perfectly together, and aside from some minor statistical differences, D20 Past fits, as well. I'm running a wild west game right now with D20 Modern and Sidewinder: Recoiled, and I love it.

It's apropriately deadly, and we're loving it!

What got me thinking about western was a KODT strip where they were playing Cattle Punk.

Any of these rulesets have mechanics for detremining your bounty?

Not specifically. Sidewinder has a fairly detailed "setting guide" to the old west which might suggest such things. And, of course, there's the internet full of such historical ideas.

For that matter, did the hackmaster people ever come out with cattle punk. I know that they did Fariy Meat.

How about old school. Anyone care to discuss TSR's Boot Hill? I've heard of it, but that is about it.

Not d20, but a great wild west setting is Cold Steel Reign. I'm not good at explaining things secondhand, so I'll let y'all take a gander:

For any familiar with Shades of Divinity, same author, much matured in his writing capabilities.

I think I would recommend Sidewinder as a base ruleset to use in a western type game. I'll be running a campaign soon using sidewinder myself.

Some years ago I did run a game using Deadlands D20, and it is OK, but Sidewinder seems a lot more flexible to me. It is just far more difficult to tinker with Deadlands D20 than with Sidewinder.
