D&D 5E Will D&D Next qualify as "Rules Lite"?

The answer to this question entirely depends upon what one considers to be "Rules Lite."

I would say that it's "liter" than any edition of DnD I've ever played (I started playing in 2nd edition). It's definitely a lot "liter" than 3rd and 4th editions. 2nd edition was simpler in some ways, as there were a lot fewer character abilities and options, but on the other hand, there was table after table to look up and keep track of, percentile skills for thieves, and many other "clunky" bits. DnDN is a lot simpler at its core, even though it has more character options, so I would say it's "liter."

No, I don't think it will. Also, I hope it doesn't, as I dislike most rules-lite games when it comes to long term play (which D&D is definitely aimed at).

It's definitely the litest version of D&D that I know about. I don't know if I could comfortably call it "lite" as of the final playtest packet -- that would require removing skills and deadening a lot of levels.

Good god no. I'm rarely one to say what is and isn't D&D but it's difficult to imagine how D&D could be D&D if it were what most people who play rules lite RPGs would consider rules lite.

No.

Primarily because I don't think the "basic game" will be as basic as people are assuming. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised to the contrary.
