Wizards killing products?

Tome of Horrors and Tome of Horrors 2. Best Monster books out there.
Tome of horrors being the best monster book out there? Man, I'm glad I don't buy many monster books, because if the adherer, bonesucker, crabman, death dog, executioner's hood, flail snail, gorilla bear, jack-o-lantern, lava children, mustard jelly, nilbog, ogrillon, piercer, stench kow, volt, and wolf-in-sheep's-clothing are the best monsters around, I don't want to see the worst ones.

I was so disappointed in Tome of Horrors. There are lots and lots of cool monsters from the earlier editions, and they waste space on wolf-in-sheep's-clothing?

I have to agree, I was severely disappointed with the Tome of Horrors. I had really high hopes for it initially.

I like nilbogs.

I don't know why.

I judge a book 80% on its contents, and only about 20% by art and "production values". There are LOTS of full color Wizards books that are crap (Planar Handbook, Weapons of Legacy, Champions of Ruin, most of the Races of ... and Complete ...), while some incredible B&W 3rd party books are overlooked because they aren't as fancy. The books I've read that surpass the Wizards stuff are:

Midnight 2E, and whole Midnight line
Darwin's World 2nd
Spycraft 2.0
Iron Heroes
Book of the Righteous
Book of Fiends
Conan OGL Atlanten Edition
Player's Guide to Arcanis, and most Arcanis supplements
Tome of Horrors II
A lot of FFG's Legends & Lairs line (Wildscape, Path of ... series,
Iron Kingdoms books

Non-D20

Warhammer Fantasy Role Play 2nd knocks the socks off anything else out there! A beautiful book, incredible art, and very enjoyable read. The Old World Bestiary is also gorgeous, and incredibly useful for establishing atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to Heirs of Sigmar too.

Deadlands Classic was a great game with incredible world depth and atmosphere. The art was generally very good too, and while pulpy, also eerie. I loved how they split the books into a general knowledge section (via the Tombstone Epitaph panphlets), and the GM's section with what was really going on behind the scenes.

The Monsternomicon is THE BEST 3rd party product in terms of artwork, writing, creativity, and overall flavor. It's better than most of the WotC books I own.

Denizens of Avadnu is a very nice looking book, but I don't particularly like many of the monsters. Arcana Evolved is a very nice looking book too, but I can't help but feel it was overhyped.

If Book of Fiends were a Wizards product, a lot of people would be pissed off because it doesn't follow the 'Great Wheel' line of thinking. In fact, it's better served as being a 3rd party book, cause they can get away with being more creative. ;)

The WHFRP book is simply gorgeous. I can't back up the actual contents, but the rules look good (at a glance).

This is because that world has a better flavour and horror feel then most WOTC worlds in my opinion and the idea of different domains all fitting together and randomly shifting allows a DM far more flexibility in campaigns then a normal game does.

And I said, (more than once) I'm talking about BOOKS!!! Not SETTINGS!!!
I'm glad you like Ravenloft. Its an awesome world. Please start your own thread to talk about how you think Ravenlofts tastes better to you than other settings.

Green Ronin's Products and Malhavoc's Products are rapidly shaping up to be premier offerings to rival WotC's stuff. From innovative rules, to excellent artwork, to inspiring topics, they're turning out some awesome stuff. Witness Mutants and Masterminds 2e and Arcana Evolved. Even though M&M2 is not out yet, if it follows in M&M1's footsteps, it will be a fantastic product.
Henry, I know you're a mod and this is asking for trouble but I'm talking about DnD books.

Not superhero books, not alternative versions of DnD with different classes in a different setting using different rules.

Just normal DnD books.

I am a nut for monster books so I will give you the top 10 non Wotc mosnter books (by the way in my top 10 monster books the the MM is the only WotC book

I'm also not looking for your favorite non-WotC books. The point is to say... XYZ is equal to, or better than a similar non-WotC book

*will now go to defend ToH* Why? Because if you compare both BoVD and Fiend Folio to what's in ToH, nearly HALF the book contains material from both. Which is why I consider ToH FAR superior to Fiend Folio, especially where it ripped stuff off from ToH.
