Looking forward to more details. Also note, that they say games as in plural so it's not just BG4. Maybe Pool of Radiance 3 as well or something completely new.

Heh, I am skeptical. Baldurs Gate 3 alluded to "not safe for work" content. I would be surprised if WotC would "go there" without making it anodyne.

I will believe it when I see it. WotC led efforts are almost universally bad. They aren't a video game company. they should let video game companies make D&D games -- preferably really talented AA studios.

They said it would be as serious as BG3. They did not say that it would be as good as BG3. All they're really saying is "it will not be a comedy".

It says they "want" to make CRPGs that earn as much money as BG3. That's an aspiration, not an actual plan.

I imagine licencing to different videogame studios to work with several settings. One with FR, other with Greyhawk, a third with Dragonlance, etc.

D&D is a titan in TTRPG industry but in the videogame one it is a dwarf. D&D earned "brand power" thanks BG3 and Hasbro wants to repeat it, but it will need time, money and talent.

Maybe Hasbro could talk with Tencent for a partnership, a D&D setting adapted to Chinese market. WotC would work in the crunch(PC species, subclasses, monsters, feats, magic item..) and Tencent team in the lore/background/fluff

I think this would be great, something like Diablo Immortal - a game that is an open, unashamed cashgrab first and foremost. Not that it’s good for consumers and gamers, but it would please Hasbro shareholders, and that’s what matter most right?

Actually, that's not what they are saying. In this context "serious" means "important" not "joke free". There is plenty of jokey stuff in BG3.

that would be even more meaningless, and an odd choice of words. I do assume it does mean something along the lines of ‘mature’ / ‘not light hearted’ rather than your ‘lots of sales’ interpretation
