A new red dragon figure is coming next year.

WizKids is continuing its line of Dungeons & Dragons adult chromatic dragon figures, this time with a new red dragon figure. The new figure, announced today and available for pre-order on WizKids' website, shows the new red dragon roaring at the skies with one arm raised on the ground. The new red dragon design has a significantly longer tail than before, which is also showcased on the figure. The figure sits on a 75 mm base and has an 8-inch wingspan. Both a painted and unpainted version of the red dragon will be available, with the painted version costing $79.99 and the unpainted version costing $59.99. You can check out renders of the dragon figure below:

A Black Dragon (called the Black Dragon Corrupter) was previously revealed by WizKids and will be released in February 2025.

As part of the 2024 rules update, Wizards of the Coast redesigned both the chromatic and metallic dragons away from their iconic Todd Lockwood designs. Part of these redesigns were made to give the dragons looks that matched both their lore and mechanical abilities. For example, the red dragon's underside has shades of grey, which is meant to allow it to blend in with smoke clouds when viewed from the ground.

I missed this post yesterday, but mine came too! My black looks like it got a bit damaged in shipping, the clear support post connecting the chest to the base was broken off and the tail was bent up higher than it’s supposed to be. But we (my partner and I) are planning to add a stalactite under the hand for extra support, and to use paint and maybe some green stuff to turn the gap in the chest into a wound. If anyone’s interested I’d be happy to post pictures of them once they finish the paint job (currently WIP).

Please do! It will be a long time before I get around to painting mine, so I would love to see some WIP encouragement!

I was thinking I’d wait till they were finished, but sure, I can post WIPs too!

Here’s the red. Just the flat colors at the moment, haven’t added the black details on the spines, scales, and horns, colored the mouth, or done any hilighting or shading. Not sure how well you can make out the gray on her wings and underbelly in this lighting, but it is flatted in too.

And here’s the black. She can’t currently stand on her own because of the aforementioned damage sustained in shipping, but I’m quite happy with the green-black we chose for the base color and the bone color for the face, horns, and claws. And I love my partner’s decision to use it for the tip of the tail as well. The underside of the wings have a nice gradient to a lighter green in the middles of the membranes, but its otherwise still pretty flat and needs more hilighting and detailing work. But off to a nice start, I think!

They look good...but those gaps!
Yeah, that's my issue with the Wizkids minis as well, that and the moldlines. Now imagine these same issues with the even more expensive pre-painted versions.

But I have to admit, those dragons look VERY good! And with some putty and a knife, they would be ready for painting. I just don't want to add more to my already incredible large pile of bare plastic. In time I might also redo my pre-painted Wizkids dragons (like Tiamat) to first correct/glue/putty all the gaps and then getting rid of the mold lines before repainting. But with the stuff I would do first... Maybe in another 30 years when I retire... ;)

Thank you - they are looking great!

Looks cool, but I am unsure how confident I can be that the actual product will look like that.

I've been burned (no pun intended) too many times by WizKids minis in the past.
