Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

It seems I'll have to get a 3rd job so that I can make enough money to fund Zobeck all by myself - it seems the ravenous ghouls are going to win! Oh sad-happy day! Yeah for OD #3 and woe for the city-state...

The ghouls supporters are a much more vocal bunch, but the clockwork mages of the City-State are stealthy and numerous. They are very, very close, and a few people signing up as supporters could easily swing it. Last time I checked, the margin was about one standard patron.

Fans of the clockwork mages, shadow magic, kobolds, and monsters all have something to chew on in the "City-State of Zobeck" sourcebook. It will include dozens of adventure hooks for city-and-surroundings, and its should provide about a 50/50 split between DM material and player material. It's planned as less of a pure city book, and all of it very easy to adapt to any campaign.

Mostly, it provides an example of worldbuilding design and spell design, which I haven't really touched on in earlier Open Design projects.

flesh-tearing, bone-grinding ghouls are not quiet.
tome-reading, scroll-writing mages are quiet. Except for the onerous ticking of clockworks.

Sounds fair to me!

On topic though, I can see how as an experimental method of design it would be time to move to something other than an adventure. Different insight into the process and all that. There are bits of Zobeck I like, but equally there are bits I don't like the sound of; not because of the quality of the work the product will be, but because I doesn't suit my tastes of what's in my game.

With Empire of the Ghouls I like 100% of the outline and it sounds like a great adventure.

Ditto. The folks locking down Steam & Brass are obviously within their rights, as Wolfgang has said, but there's certainly the presumably unintended side effect of hurting the chances for sequels and supplemental materials.

He mentioned something like a $200 ransom. If that was paid, how much would Steam & Brass itself then sell for, or would it be free?

And could the $200 be something like a goal as opposed to just people who want to be sponsors? Something like a 'bribery' project seperate from the sponsorship bits?

At the last count the Ghouls were ahead in the voting by 3 votes - 162 to 159. If you Ghoul supporters haven't signed up yet, now is the time to do it. The poor defenceless, peaceful Ghouls need your help to defeat the evil forces of Zobeck! :p

Yeah. What's up with that?

Not that I'm not pleased . . .

Major patron and a smaller patron moved in the same direction. I'm expecting a couple more votes tonight, could move the needle back the other way.
