Wood Elf

Does the dropped -2 to Cha apply to Forgotten Realms Wood elves as well. Is it in the Players Guide to Faerun or is it just assumed to be true for all settings? My friend is playing a wood elf this weekend in another guys 3.5 campaign and we'd sure like to know.

- Thanks!

This wood elf is not the default elf race for a reason, it is slightly too good. In fact the wood elf is half the reason that people bag half orcs because you compare their stat adjustments.

However the real issue here is that in D&D there are two fundamental races, those that are designed with PC's in mind and "monster" races. The PC races are designed to be balanced against humans while the monster races are designed to be a good encounter.

Savage species is a heroic attempt to make "monsters" playable but there are a heap of exceptions & loopholes that can be exploited if you want & the DM allows it.

The endless hordes of elven subraces is another issue altogether. ;)

Yes, AFAIK it does. I'm sure there was an official answer to that, but I'm not sure where it was from. Either from custserv directly, from the FAQ, or from teh Ask Rich Baker thread over on wizards.
